Game Thread - vs Furman in Orlando - Thanksgiving morning 11am - ESPN2

The irony of this is that our first inbounds play with a chance to take the lead, from under the basket, was actually a decent play. Someone (AP?) flashed open right underneath the basket but the inbounder (Johnston I think) didn't feed it to him. Feels typical with Mooney offenses... We get a really good look but pass it up trying for a ridiculously great one, then have to settle for a bad one and lose.

Frustrating game to watch. How we can’t open up the 1-3-1 is sort of damning. End of game lineup was weird. No Lopez, and Walz instead of Beagle. I’d think either of those two are better finishers around the basket than anyone else other than maybe Daughtry.

Glad that they made it respectable at least.

Ok I admit when I am wrong. I thought the @bemont game would be the first game Mooney would crap his pants and think it was too big a game for him and team to win. It turns out it was Furman in Orlando with 60 fans in the stands.
As the great Moondog always says… “Its very hard to win on the road.” For him, its damn impossible.

It is going to be very interesting to see what the rotations look like come the A10 schedule. I didn’t understand the end of game lineup either. Just like the starting lineup, it has nothing to do with the best players being on the floor.

Anyone who has watched the Spiders for any period of time knows that there are going to be unexpected losses along the way. The biggest question to me is whether the Spiders are able to keep the damage to a single loss or whether they will string a number of losses together. I still like this team 1000% better than the one last year, but we have the same guy making the decisions.

Ultimately this loss doesn’t mean anything and a win wouldn’t have had any meaning either. The only thing it showed me was the Spiders still have the same issues they always have. Hopefully the players learned something and are ready to start a new winning streak.

The win wouldnt mean anything and the loss doesnt mean anything. Interesting? Why play the games then? Nothing means anything I guess. Pretty much sums up Spider basketball these past many years under the Mooney regime.

Absolutely embarrassing. Fire Mooney.

This will be the last men’s game I’ll be commenting on or watching this season. See y'all on the women’s board.

I ate a Snickers (had a bottle of wine). Strike over in record quick time. I think this Furman team along with W&M both could win their conferences. That height will be hard to compete with in the SoCon and they have a good coach. But this game confirmed what our biggest deficiency is.

Yea a pathetic coach and athletic director.

Afternoon chuckle. Neither will win their conference. Will when fans realize that UR may have the worst coach in D1 basketball……with unlimited resources ?

My post says that our biggest deficiency is our coach! You just had to read between the lines.

I’ll stand on what I say. Both will win their conference, either regular season or tournament.

I’m in agreement with localspider. It only took 1 loss this season and the dynamics of how we lost to realize all roads lead to Moon. 5 early season OOC wins over bad and fair at best teams leads to fools gold????

I agree with localspider too, that’s why I said Mooney should be fired. I also believe both W&M and Furman will win their conferences. I’m usually wrong about these things though.

Hard to believe a team that missed more than half their foul shots, had one guy make 5 3's from almost the same spot, and had a frosh guard (who is really pretty good) score 27 points, is going to win their conference, unless their conference is really, really weak.
It seems to me that teams have been killing us with three pointers from the corner for years. Not sure why that is still not being addressed.
But wait, Ijust remembered, he's still the winningest coach in school history. Sigh.
