Game Thread - vs Furman in Orlando - Thanksgiving morning 11am - ESPN2

Furman in control this whole game. Spiders fighting back but won’t get the job done. Sad to think the first team we play that’s not awful - a 3-3 Furman team with 2 non-D1 wins - and lose. Like I said before, leaving players on VMI and Gardner Webb open for 3 is okay because they’ll miss. Furman won’t. Imagine what a SLU or VCU or Dayton will take advantage of come conference play.

They have 8 guys and tall guards. I don’t understand why we didn’t put taller guards in when we saw what guys like Wilkins were doing to us all game. The driving to the basket is a strength of ours and was working during our best stretches. Plus, would get their thin depth in foul trouble.

We look like we’ve never seen a zone in our life.

Terrible officiating this game. Guys fought hard and proud that we didn’t quit but man we should’ve done better at the end with 3 different chances to score. I wanted us to keep attacking the rim and get the foul call.

Of course, we have three chances to win the game and can’t get a clean look on any of them. We ran the same inbounds play twice in a row and it’s the same play we would have ran with 10 minutes left in the first half??

Why can we never run a play to get a good look when we need one??

Exactly what should have been tried, but not how Mooney coaches. Had multiple chances to steal the game, but don’t have the alpha on this team.

We will see if the Spiders can get past this and get back on track or whether this will lead to a string of losses.
