Game Thread - VCU @RC Sat 2/14 6PM CBS Sports Network

A couple notes:

- As I expected, VCU fans all around me in section 9. Ones next to me were fine, but lady behind me was screaming the whole game and drove me crazy.

- Tanner missed a dunk in pregame warmups. A sign of things to come. That was the end of our chances.

- For the past decade that I’ve been attending games, every time we play VCU the band plays the stupid “U of R, go spiders go” chant at a crucial moment, just giving VCU fans an excuse to do their stupid chant. The syllables of our school name do not fit with the chant. Whoever is in charge of game day experience needs to stop us from doing this at every single VCU game. Drives me crazy

- This game should not change anyone’s opinion of coach or the program

They’ve been doing the UofR chant for as long as I can remember and VCU has been owning it for as long as well.

But no one in game experience seems to remember from the prior year.

Sorry, there is no moral victory in this. That’s some artificial depiction.

We weren’t coming back from 20 or do down. Made a good effort but shoveling out from those depths rarely plays out. Didn’t work out weeks ago vs St Joes when we were down 17 and didn’t tonight.

We got outplayed, out hustled, out bullied, and every other “out” in the first half. But we keep tossing the ball around the 3 point line, making an extra pass, and throwing up last second shots. We desperately need a new offense.

Another year and yet another VCU coach. But they all have one thing in common. They all own Mooney.

First of all this game was not a comeback. At no point was the lead erased or overcome. You can give the Spiders credit for not giving up and that’s it.

Those in attendance did everything they could to try to provide energy that the team and coach lacks. Of course, I guess getting a T with under a second to go in the first half is energy, albeit negative energy.

The only good news is if VCU is paying its players twice as much, they are getting even more ripped off than UR is. This version of VCU is a run of the mill mid-major team. No way is it a worthy at-large team, which hopefully other A10 teams will prove.

Fortunately UR sports fans have lacrosse and Women’s basketball to invest their time in cheering. Great effort and outcomes for both of those teams today. Baseball team gets the true comeback award for the second game of their doubleheader too.

Losing to your in-city rival always stings, especially when it can start to feel like this keeps happening. But if we’re being fair about THIS game, it wasn’t the disaster people are making it out to be.

The first half was rough but the way this team came out after halftime? That matters. They adjusted, played with urgency, and even outworked them for long stretches. Most importantly, they didn’t quit on the coach and neither did the crowd. If this locker room had tuned him out, that second half would’ve been a blowout. Instead, we were one or two plays away from stealing it at the end. I’m absolutely proud of the fight and fire displayed this evening and I hope you guys are too.

It's always blamed on not playing with enough energy. It seems like that should be pretty easy to address, and yet...

Ho hum. No fire in the belly after yet another vcu loss. Of course nobody asks about his stellar 9-29 record either. Nothing to see here. Get ready for Wednesday.

No it doesn’t matter and no I’m not proud.

The timeout should have been a postgame question. Vcu scored 2 buckets after the TO stretching the lead back out.
CM is the dumbest coach in America. Worst caller of time outs in history, which is only one of many absolutely stupid strategies he applies regularly. Watching CM coach is like watching an armless, legless person try to swim.
