Hate to bang on the kid. I was a big defender last couple years, but he has been hard to watch this seasonWalz was a -22 in his 27 minutes. Beagle +8 in his 11 minutes

Mooney ball.Lots of bad execution down the stretch - a flagrant 1, 2 missed free throws, bad d (open shooter for 3 and waltz guarding a guard who just beat him off the dribble), but par for the course.
Yep, Mooney coached team.Lots of bad execution down the stretch - a flagrant 1, 2 missed free throws, bad d (open shooter for 3 and waltz guarding a guard who just beat him off the dribble), but par for the course.
And those were just the first 31 seconds of the game until we sent them to the line for their first points.Vcu led the game for 39:29.
Tie game for 31 seconds
It is not.Just checked the box score. Is 2-17 from the field good?
I am always proud of our players. You know they are trying their best and played with a lot of heart tonight.
Fact of the matter is though, this was worst case results. Not only do we lose. Staff has the “moral victory” to hang their hat on. The we came back, fought hard, competed, showed a lot of energy, etc. talking points. Can point out that Mooney isn’t the one responsible for flagrant 1 foul (even though he had a technical with 0.5 seconds left of first half) or missed free throws. It’ll only bolster just “how close we are” with competing against VCU.
What bothers me with that is it completely ignores the first half where we were embarrassed. We can’t keep putting ourselves in a hole and setting such a low bar where it looks like there’s significant improvement when we play decently. It’s like starting a marathon by walking the first half of it and then sprinting the second half and saying “see how good my time was the 2nd half of the marathon”.
The reality is we lost to VCU. Again. VCU has their 6th head coach who walks in and beats us. Again. This VCU team isn’t that great. But their culture, their expectations, has a new coach in year 1 in the at-large conversation. Again.
We didn’t lose by much. Look how great our second half was. Who cares? The result was still a loss. Find a way to win. Which means changing something. Tired of losing win the game.
I’m coming to the realization that this is looking more and more true by the day. Had we lost big, the talking points would be about the academic standards or NIL difference. Losing close, the talking points are the moral victories of playing hard and just needing a few more pieces to put things together or saying how Mooney isn’t responsible for missed free throws or shots. Had we won, it would say how great of a job Mooney does with so many limitations.17, I hear you. But the excuses were already put in place no matter the outcome tonight. Poor Lil ol Richmond has less than half the payroll. If we somehow won, wow look Mooney is so good with one hand tied behind his back. No matter what the losing margin same excuse. Hardt is probably already home and asleep.
I was at the game, that guy was there from the start of the game and welcomed by the UR student next to him. That UR student ought to be ashamed of himself. Fine if you want to watch with your friend, go sit in the back of the sectionIs there a VCU fan in the front row of our student section??? Wtf?
By the way I spent 14 days in Europe 2 years ago and my life didn't change that much, except my bank account.A VCU home game at the Robins Center.
More life altering than a 10-day trip to Europe.
