Game thread - @URI 2PM SAT Feb. 7th. ESPN+

Think about this. We are currently 3-7 tied with compatible brethren Fordham & La Salle. Only St Bon & Loy Chi are below us.

In order the next 4 games are RI, GM, VCU, & Davidson. All 4 are better teams than us. I hope we sweep all of them. However the practicality of that is slim, and the there's a greater chance we get swept. If that scenario happens, we will have lost 9 in a row.
We beat 3 of those and get 2 more. Thats 5 wins, what more can you want?

Davidson is a bad matchup with us. VCU played terrible last game I doubt it happens again. Rhode Island is a 50 percent chance. George Mason is probably a bad matchup for us

He could just get a gig in radio or tv I'm sure that would cover his expenses. He should have so much invested - if he just invested in spy or Dow tracker funds he has a huge nest egg - that he really doesn't need to worry about much more. His boys will probably get scholarships or go to Richmond for free. Or he could take that D3 job - but as much as we get annoyed by his seeming lack of motivation - he didn't stay at the lower level gigs or even AF very long. Service academies is a relative low pressure D1 gig.
At this point in what he has earned at UR and excluding retirement benefits or annuity from UR and other investments, no way is money an issue for him staying. On the other hand money may or may not be an issue in letting go of him. Bottom line - monetarily he wins.

GM and VCU are always bad matchups for us, low chance on either. Normally we play on away at Davidson but they just smoked us, so low confidence on that.

Maybe URI but away game, not loving our chances.

Hoping for a huge blowout embarrassing loss for the hapless, uninterested and under qualified Coach Chris “Id rather be cooking brisket” Mooney.

We are 3-7 I meant we end 5-13…
Would you say there is a chance of that?
To end 5-13 is a pretty low bar. That means we only win 2 more games going 2-6. We still have St Bon & Loy Chi on the schedule - both below us in standings which should be givens. I'd hope the coach who is the all time leader in wins for UR basketball history can deliver more than 2 wins to close the season. As it stands, it looks like our OOC soft schedule did 0 to prepare us for conference play. What baffles me is that it seems like the talent level is much better for us this year than last.

offensive talent, yes, for the most part. Last year nescovic was a good offensive player but also a defensive sieve. Similarly, the 3 good offensive players we added via portal this year are all streaky on offense and suspect defensively, sometimes hugely so.

AP remains awful on offense. Walz / Beagle / Tyne / Thomas all have moments but are inconsistent. Tanner is a glue guy role player at best. These are the upperclassmen who should be the core you depend upon game to game on both ends. But we never know what we'll get.

The three freshmen mostly play like freshmen, esp. if AA can't get to the line. Bryson doesn't play. That's the team. I do think the talent level is higher on offense so we generally look better when it's clicking (higher ceiling than last year) but we can't stop anyone who has a real plan of attack. We look good when we click on offense, push tempo and play faster, we look awful when forced to play halfcourt offense all game and defend a full 30 seconds on defense.
