Game Thread - @ St. Bonaventure Wed 1/8 7pm ESPN+

Happy to be dead wrong with my prediction for this one. I loved the way we played tonight - rebounded well, shot well, protected the ball, stayed aggressive, etc.

I still dont think this is one of the better Spider teams of Mooney's tenure. But we have enough serious talent to be dangerous and make some noise, especially in a wide open A10 like this.

I agree with the first part. St. louis just looked really good in the siegal. I’d say they are step ahead of the conference at the moment

great offensive performance for most of the game. Was only when UR turned the ball over that UR had any dips really (9 turnovers in 2nd half.) Made shots, did just enough on defense. Johnston is the guy. Couldn't get a look in the first half for some reason, but 2nd half was unstoppable. The 3 he made that they commented on was dead on, he caught and fired in no time, was a huge shot early in the 2nd half.

also, credit to UR for coming out in a 1-3-1 to start the game, even if it was just 1 possession. It wasn't exactly a great example of how to play it, as there was a guy wide open but SBU missed their FGA, so credit due. You never know when 1 empty possession can be the difference.

I also liked the game plan to slough off of big Frank and clog the lane against the cutters. Sure, he got some points but he ended up with some tough shots, many from 6-8 feet out which you will usually take on defense. SBU hit a couple too many baseline cutters for dunks and layups but overall I thought it was a solid defensive game plan and never let SBU get into a rhythm. Shows how tough it is to play a low post-focused offense in basketball today.

Great win! A lot of guys played well. Johnston and Lopez were outstanding. No question they are our best offensive players and should be our leading scorers most games. Both can create their own shots, and both can hit the 3. Keep shooting, guys!

I told u Tyne and Tanner could play. (Kidding). I have been hard on both, but both played well tonight. Not just their scoring, but they seemed more aggressive and both looked real comfortable out there. That steal by Tyne on the baseline that led to the Lopez dunk was a thing of beauty. Tanner made a great impact in his 11 minutes. He was active, wasn't quick to just grab a pass and throw it back. He looked to score, and you need to play like that to be effective.

I said I was done with Walz a few games ago, but I have to give him big time credit too. He battled his butt off and helped hold Mitchell to a 5-16 shooting night. He had 10 boards, 3 assists, a couple blocks, and a steal with 0 turnovers. That is a fantastic, all around game. And, it was really nice seeing him drive to the bucket and get a couple baskets being aggressive.

Defensively, I thought we played well. I know St Bona scored 80, but it seemed like a really good team effort from everyone on the defensive end. The energy was there all game on that end.

This was a fun game to watch. We played with energy and aggressiveness from the start. We got a nice lead. They made a few mini runs, which you would expect, but we answered every one of them with some key buckets offensively. Great game guys, and let's hope I have to apologize to Tyne, Tanner, and Walz more often this year because if they play as well the rest of the year as they did tonight, we might have something here.

best two-way game we've played in a long time.
so many guys gave good minutes on both ends. many already mentioned, but I'll add Walz and Beagle and JROB at the 5 combining for 5-6 shooting with 16 boards and 6 assists!

seems Mooney is going to keep going deep and it's paying off. play hard, get a blow, come back and play hard.
Johnston and Lopez came as advertised!

I think Beagle is struggling a little bit when he is up against a strong guy like
Mitchell. Walz just made it more difficult for him to push him in the lane. Mitchell
reminded me of Peter Woolfolk with his soft bank shots even though he is taller.
