Game thread - LaSalle @ RC - Wed 1/14 7pm ESPN+

We did play well. I like that the rotation is trimming down a little. 9 guys is enough. No need to go deeper. Lopez and Johnston each played 30 minutes, as they should every game. Would like to see Aiden get a lot more minutes than Tyne (23 for Tyne is too many and 21 for Aiden is not enough), but it is good we have cut Tanner's minutes. I just think we have better options in front of him.

Walz and Beagle were both really good tonight. AJ is such a good scorer who can get it done multiple ways. Johnston's rebounds were impressive, and good to see Daughtry bounce back. Not sure why we can't bring energy every night because we are a much better team when we do.

It took longer than it should have, but hopefully with a smaller rotation and the right guys playing the most minutes, we can be more consistent and go on a nice run.

We did play better. Several guys looked quite good. Not taking anything away from a good win, but La Salle as advertised is not a good team. It’s easier to play well against a weak team. Big difference in the talent of LS versus a GW. We’ll need to play as well as we did tonight or better when we play St L.

Did UR play well? It was a 4 point game with 15m left and Lasalle stinks.

2nd half was better. First half should have been a blowout but some truly puzzling plays - Tanner's inbounds turnover for a layup, Thomas's foul on a 4 point play - should not be happening in the 2nd half of a season.

Lasalle is bad, as usual. Such a low-energy game to watch.

I don't mind Daughtry coming off the bench bc he plays well with Aiden and as a primary scoring option when we sit Johnston and Lopez.

AP on offense...it's been said. He had roughly a light year of time to line up that 3, and then missed a layup. Against poor offensive teams that already struggle to score - like Lasalle - his minutes should be light.

Combined opponent record of UR's league wins so far: 2-12. I'll reserve judgment.

As poor a scorer as AP is, he had a great assist to Beagle and a great steal on a breakaway. AP
provides a spark with his energy, I just wish he was a better shooter.

So like Davidson last night?

LaSalle stinks, as we all know. Mooney loves beating Fordham, LaSalle and Duquesne. In fact, he's made a career of it! 59-15 against those three in his career. Without them, he's 14 games under in A-10 games for his career and a 52%-winning coach overall. I know, I know, those games count, and they do. But still.

I agree LaSalle stinks, but I think you could do the exact same thing with every coach out there. What coach wouldn't have a much better record against the bottom teams in their conference? And, sure, leave those games out ( and you are using not one team, and not even two, but three), and Mooney's got a sub .500 A-10 record, as would a ton of coaches if you left out their wins against the bottom 3 teams, but leave VCU out, and he is 174-127 in the A-10.

Yep good point sman. The Belmont win had me a little excited, we don't seem to bring consistent effort. Just not seeing the ability to win more than we lose vs GW, GMU, VCU, SLU. Hope im wrong.

But hopefully better than 2-7 of the next 9…

Was at the LaSalle game. A couple observations:

1. Walz coming out and hitting 2 three from the exact spot that he passed up at the end of the SJU game was bittersweet. He certainly has a nice touch from his spot at the top of the circle. Even the ones he missed, the stroke looked good.
2. I'm pretty sure Tanner did not see the court after that really bad turnover off the inbounds. The look that Johnston gave him after he threw that pass was pretty priceless too.
3. AJ was awesome. He is such a good player, I know Mooney is all about playing this deep rotation but AJ is a player that should be getting as much time as he can handle. He has separated from our other wing players and needs to be treated as such.
4. I don't understand the Tyne-Aiden minutes. Of our 4 guards, Tyne to me is the least impactful of all of them. Aiden is probably the most impactful (Johnston is obviously really good too), so I just don't understand Tyne getting more minutes than Aiden.
5. Not getting more minutes from Robinson and any minutes for Harper in a 20 point blow out seems like a missed opportunity to get young guys some valuable in game minutes.

LaSalle is terrible so I can't judge much from this game but credit to the team for beating an inferior team handily.
