Game Thread - @ Loyola Sat Feb 28 4pm EST - CBS Sport Network

I disagree on at least one thing, Harper is a quick trigger and not afraid to bomb. Colin always looks tentative to me, and is rarely ready to shoot when he gets the ball. Harper got off 2 shots in his 3 mins at LoyChi.

The athleticism is still an open question but he looks ok to me on D.
My take as well. Mooney wanted to reign Harper in as the system is to find the best shot, not the first possible shot.

Harper just got back from injury. Not sure why he only played 3 minutes, to me if your good to go, you are good to go. Moon will assuredly say the future is bright with AA, Harper, Robinson as our core next year. Of course, Harper and Robinson have not shown themselves to be A-10 players, so the less we see of Harper, the more Mooney can gaslight us.

Harper had one really good game against SLU, but to me I see a lot of Collin Tanner in him. A player that has some skills but lacks the athlectism needed to be an impact player in the A-10.
Agree. Harper and JRob have scored a combined 122 points this year. Kind of like Tanner scoring 114 points a year ago, but we started him this year. He only has 149 points scored this year. So, I am not sure any are A-10 players, yet we will probably count on all 3 to be part of the rotation next year.

we shot 30% for the game. sometimes the 1st open shot is the best shot.
This 💯. Not to beat up on Tanner, but so many times he gets the ball at the elbow and just immediately looks for the next pass even when he’s got room to shoot.

Best shot is definitely not to pass it 7 times and heave a midrange up falling away as the shot clock expires.

We really make so many pointless/mindless passes, just for the sake of literally going through the motions. I'm going to count how many in the next game I watch, assuming I watch a complete game. It's just stupid.

Mooney mentioned in postgame how Loyola surprised them a bit because they left Tanner wide open at the 3 point line and how other players needed to adjust to that.

Lost on Mooney is that the opposition scout identifies your starting wing as a complete offensive liability.

It is pretty telling that we start a wing who teams leave wide open from 3.
I get that Daightry is a defensive liability but I’d much rather see him get bigger minutes at the 4 and slide AJ to the 3. Right now those two guys interchange a lot and we leave Colin at 3 where he’s reluctant to shoot and not real effective at driving.

It feels super obvious to me but CM clearly has a different take on where these guys fit.

Guys, AA and Daughtry started for several games in a row, and we got pummeled at the beginning of those games. This isn't the panacea or cure that you think it is.

That said, AA should be playing minimum 30 mins a game, regardless of whether he starts. If Daughtry were a remotely competent defender, he'd be playing more. But he isn't.

I don't think anything could have cured us, but, my goodness, we should have tried something different. Daughtry and AA never started at the same time. And, it wasn't several games that each started. Daughtry started 4 early A-10 games, and we went 2-2. AA started 3 mid season A-10 games and we went 0-3, but I think we all felt he should start, and it would have been nice seeing him start with Daughtry to see how we looked. Even though Daughtry is not a good defender and is turnover prone, I think it would have made sense to start him to give us more size, and AA should have been starting all year, so I agree with 97 here. Despite his negatives, I think the pros of what Daughtry adds to us outweighs the negatives of starting Tyne and Tanner all year. The 4 guard lineup just hasn't worked all year, and we had a guy in Daughtry, bad defense or not, who made the lineup fit better.

I still don't see this horrendous defence from Daughtry.
and he's by far our best inside offensive player. there isn't really a #2 since Beagle went down.

Wasn't AA starting until he got hurt???? If that's so, Moon chose not to start him rest of season once he returned from injury. However, he seems to be on the court end of games.

Correct, he finally got inserted into the starting lineup in late January and started three games before he got hurt and did not regain his starting spot once he returned.

To be fair, he did not have great stats in those three games, and we lost all of them, including the Davidson debacle. But it's not like we were winning much in A-10 play with anybody else starting either.
