Game Thread - East Carolina at RC - Saturday 11/8 6pm ESPN+

I'm not sure how to find per game +/-, but EvanMiya tracks it for the entire season: EvanMiya Player Ratings. Select A10 in the conference field and then Richmond in the team field. I don't think this counts the Southern VA game, though.

Sports Reference also tracks Box Plus Minus which is a more advanced version that takes into account your entire box score contributions instead of just the score differential when you're on the floor. See the "BPM" column here: Sports Reference Richmond Advanced Stats.

Per the above link, -1. He's #5 on the team in BPM though, only behind Argabright, Beagle, Thomas, and Daughtry.
Yes, I was thinking BPM, and that makes an interesting five on the floor.

very cool - where do you get the +- stats from?
I use an app called Real. Downloaded it about 2 months ago and it has replaced espn for me. Unfortunately does not have women’s college basketball or FCS football. For men’s only has about 10 conferences. Definitely a work in progress but has a lot of in-depth statistics.

lol, this was quite a positive thread to read.

nobody will want to hear this, but this is exactly why teams put together a crappy OOC schedule. not only do the players get acclimated and gain confidence, but so do the fans. we say we want tougher games, but if we were losing them this board would be melting down.

I like how we've looked, but ECU looks like a bad team to me.
So, we need 13 garbage games so players and fans can gain confidence? And, we would likely get more than 4600 fans to an early season home game with a better opponent, so are fans really that excited right now? Count me as one who wants tougher games. Like 23 said, I would bet the players do too.

I don’t think any diehard fans are swayed by wins over subpar opponents. The team may pickup some “fair weather” fans that only want to support a winning team and may pickup some interest from others if the team remains undefeated.

I think what is currently happening is posters are happy to see positive contributions by mostly unknown, new players because of the train wreck that was last season. At the same time, I think most realize that we aren’t going to know how good this team really is until the regular season games start.

But the marketing department is definitely happy with the storylines they can create.

Yep my biggest take aways from the game:
A) pieces seem to fit better, no ball stopper like Dusan
B) better talent as we never got much out of our transfer guards last season an AP/Dusan/Beagle were underwhelming last year.
C) again ball movement and attacking on offense seemed better than I have seen in some time.
D) Defense was active and did not give easy drives
E) Going to be hard to know what we have with our schedule

Interested to see if letdown vs WM or do we carry the momentum?

Excellent point. Attendance and atmosphere at the first 2 games has been pretty pathetic, especially considering ECU has a sizeable local fanbase and brought a fair number of fans to the game. Student attendance is literally less than a hundred and that is probably pretty generous. They don't even fill the bleachers courtside.

So, no fans are not excited about the schedule. Our fanbase is not a bunch of idiots and I suspect most can seen plainly see what we did to our OOC schedule.

And then I don't even know what is going on with the student engagement. ECU was essentially opening night on a Saturday and we had a handful of students show up. Student attendance has not been good for a while but you could always count on students to show up for opening night, especially a Saturday night. Are we even trying to engage them anymore, if we are, those efforts are failing. I remember the first couple years Mooney was hired he would go to D-Hall and around campus to drum up excitement in the program. I wonder if he is doing anything at all anymore in this regards. Somehow I doubt that.

I watched some of the game. It's not the players fault our schedule is what it is, so I need to support them. They looked good out there. Some positives I noticed:

Aiden and Beagle played great.
JRob and Daughtry look like solid A-10 players.
Chemistry looks good.
Everyone else looked pretty good out there, but need a few more games to see how good some might be.

Concerns would start with 3 point shooting. We are 13-56 (23.2%) so far. Tyne is 4-8 and Johnston 3-7, so everyone else is a combined 6-41 (14.6%).

Not sure what to think of 11 guys getting 14+ minutes, and no one taking more than 7 shots. Seems like a lot of constant in and out shuffling going on. If this works throughout the year, great, but it is certainly something to keel an eye on.

Good thing so far is more scoring in the lane. But in BBall today the 3 pt shot is the difference maker, so hopefully we start shooting better outside soon.

Apparently Mooney consulted with Bill Dooley and Jerry Wainwright to develop his own line-shift style. Can't call it the posse or whatever the other one was called. How about the swarm?
