Game thread - Bethune Cookman @ RC Tuesday, Dec 16 - 11am (ESPN+)

RC will hopefully be filled with busloads of local students. I went to one of these 11am starts for the men a few years ago and pretty cool and loud atmosphere.

The Wildcats from Daytona Beach come in 2-7 with their only D1 win over Albany State. They have been blown out many games including losing to North Dakota State by 49 and Maryland by 46. Spiders cruise with 80-40.

My Spider alum daughter convinced her fellow teachers that they should integrate the basketball game into their class curriculum this year, so that is one group of elementary classes ready to hoot and holler for the Spiders. I think it is a cool thing, but if I were to attend I think I would be wearing hear protection 😂

Spiders up 25–10 after one. Doogan already with 11, 5, and 2 in just seven minutes on the court.

Bethune-Cookman applying some pressure late in the quarter that we're having a little trouble dealing with.

Little bit of a rough patch for the bench with the Spiders missing some close shots and B-C hitting a couple of threes, forcing Roussell to call a timeout and bring Doogan and Ullstrom back in. 39–22 Spiders with 3 minutes left in the half.

All Spiders at the half...47–24.

Doogan has 22 including 5-for-6 from deep, plus 6 boards and 5 assists, so the triple-double watch is on for the second half.

Ullstrom pitching in well with 15.

Maggie is hunting assists and had a couple of bad passes toward cutters that went for turnovers. But she did just get one on an Ullstrom three. Up to 22, 7, and 6.

69–30 after three quarters. Maggie's got 26, 10, and 6. Not looking great for the triple double, as it seems likely she won't play a ton in the fourth.

Doogan only played the first few minutes of the quarter, and Ullstrom only lasted a bit longer, and then it was the bench closing things out. Some sloppiness there with turnovers and missed shots meant the quarter was played nearly even with B-C actually winning it 15–12. But the Spiders still get the easy 81–45 win.

Doogan with 26, 11, and 6. Ullstrom with 23, Dewey with 12. Newell was a pest on D as usual, nabbing 5 steals as the Spiders managed 14 overall.

I was at the game and the RC was loud with the kids in attendance. The “noise meter” got a good workout! The team jumped out with the early lead and never looked back. Every player got some court time. Go Spiders! On to the weekend at Henrico Sports Center.
