Cutter Sisk - 2026 Offer

Mooney probably did say theoretical player that we have not even contacted yet would likely be the starter. And probably made a face at the chicken and waffles and said they are bad for you.

Yep, reading those comments - Giltner out talked Mooney. Good lord. Better culture. they have zero culture, but whatever mooney was selling didn't sound as good.

Younger, enthusiastic new head coach selling the dream and immediate playing time vs a learn the system and become a player that can play professionally overseas.

yeah, sounds like Giltner flat out beat Mooney. either outworked him, or just built a better relationship. very unfortunate as he's the best (only?) guy we seem to be recruiting at the 5.

but honestly ... and this isn't sour grapes as I definitely wanted him for the above reason ... but I'm not as down about this as I was with some other misses. I was more invested in Hunger, Buchanan, Avila, Reed, Ball and Durkin. they looked like difference makers to me.

watch the guy "covering" Cutter in his highlight vid. good gracious, that kid wouldn't make a decent AAU team.

I just don't get it...this is the type of kid that should be a slam dunk for us. He's the prototypical Mooney 5-man, we have a huge need for a 5 in the future, Mooney consistently says we need to focus on high school recruits, and the best competing offer just had a coaching change and mini-scandal. Yet we STILL can't get it done.

I know you can't win em all and the portal will be there for us, but it's super frustrating.
I totally agree with you, this kid likes to play inside and out, and had the possibility of being the next Geriot, TJ or Grant type center, which we desperately need in Mooney's system. And we get beat out by Wofford!

Just to emphasize...Giltner has been head coach at Wofford for 25 days.
Hopefully his pops will show him a real good time tonight, they get in some hot water, and that number ends at 26 days. BUT, they already lost one HC, so new guy will probably be a better salesman than moonster too.

Wofford is likely no longer in consideration, though I cannot report that yet without asking Cutter. But their coach is gone, so that new staff would be essentially starting over with Cutter. Richmond is in a really good spot at the moment.
any details on what turned, Gibraltar?

I get it, you could make a case that he is not that athletic and guys like Buchanan and Hunger have a much higher floor due to their strength and athleticism.

But the flipside from a Mooney specific view is that you would have had a 7-8 year run of having a perfect fit at your critical center position, if we had landed Avila. And you should be able to show beyond a a doubt that Richmond uses the center position than anyone else out there. And when the big boys get involved in our recruits, we always say on this board: "we are just lil ol Richmond with our lil ol 1.5 mil coach and chartered jets, how the heck can we recruit with the ACC and SEC?". BUT again, in this case you had two perfect fits at most critical position and you lost out to Indiana State and Wofford. Sink that in. Not Vanderbilt. Not UVA. Not even Depaul. Lose. Lose. Lose. Lose.

I remember when we were in on Solo Ball early. Lost out. I get it. But these are the battles you have to win. SEC, B10, ACC did not come swooping in. In fact, the primary competition lost their head coach one month ago. And you still lost.

We have all talked about Mooney's failures recruiting HS. But the center position really is Failure number 1. I like Walz and very hopeful he has a good season. But just like Homenick, he came in as a big athlete, not a guy like Sisk or Avila, perfect skill set for the position. So the position we should absolutely be able to hammer home huge benefits of our system, we can't get guys that fit. And the guys that fit are mostly off the radar of the power conferences, so should be out there to grab - like a Sisk and Avila. Make it make sense. Mooney.

And we need Gkiller back on this board. Someone private message me his X handle please.

I was alsmost over this recruiting loss, and then the complete absurdity of Mooney's ability to lose this one just overwhelmed me. Crazy town. Mooney clenched his fists, waded in, and delivered the defeat, where it seemed 100 set up to win. Well, guessing we only have 15 more years of moon man. So happy Saturday Spidernation!

I have only been closely following UR basketball since 2012, so not all the Mooney years but recruiting at both the 4 and the 5 spots from HS has been a weakness the entire time. The one “hit” was Grant Golden and of course Mooney got to get an extra season from him due to COVID and an extra development year because of Grant’s heart issue. Mooney has performed better in the center spot with transfers (Cline, Quinn). So it really isn’t surprising to me that the battle for Sisk was lost.

I feel like you can count on Mooney to get the guards he needs signed, but the post positions are the exact opposite.
