Attendace FCS

Yeah, but we’re struggling ourselves. Slow starts every year and boring game plans doesn’t help our attendance.
The same chart shows UR at nearly 6K and 68% capacity and that is for a rather boring team with a 6-4 record and 0.500 record in conference. Based on the article would seem that UR Football is in a much better place. However, I agree that UR is lacking in the promotion department.

To a fan viewing on TV, I would say the 6k was the total attendance for the year not a per game average.
How are they calculating that? It certainly isn't fannies in the seats!
If a portion of the student activity fee goes to free tickets for games, I can see that accounting for 3k of the 6. If they sold 2.5 k in season tickets, I would be surprised with the fan base supporting football aging out. Walk ups can't be more than 500 a game.

Having our stadium over the mountain from campus in the middle of cornfields does not make it a magnet for students. Add in the administration discourages "traditional" tailgating festivities and you have a recipe for muted attendance. We used to have a stadium in the heart of campus but it was torn up and discarded.

I have often asked the same question about the attendance figures reported for basketball. I figured it had to be ticket sales based and have no idea how student tickets would figure in. For this year in Men’s basketball, the actual student count barely registers so far this season.

In any case, I looked up the reported attendance figures and get what Hero reported (even though their % number is low based on what I found for the max capacity number).

VMI - 7244
Howard - 6293
Holy Cross - 5419
Fordham - 4847

Avg - 5950 (72% of 8217 capacity)

The marketing department is basically giving away tickets for the game this weekend, so I would expect the average to improve for the season.

Update:

Lafayette - 5032 (specials didn’t help apparently)

Season avg - 5767 (70% of capacity)

Room for improvement no doubt.

Absolutely no help from admin on that front.

Disappointing considering our resources with a business school across the street and a marketing specific major...
Really wish wed test out a thursday night games and see if we can draw a different type of crowd. Don't televise the game locally and keep it under 3 hours. State school like VMI the thursday before labor day I imagine would be a big draw. No one wants to sit through 4 hours of Huesman ball every saturday when you can do a million other things than watch a school that doesnt care about football, give off the illusion that they care about football.

This is a very good idea. Short Thursday night game is a great idea.
