A10 players/schools implicated in point-shaving scandal

Was thinking same thing, must be hard to detect, other than they probably dont get many sizable bets on their games. Probably the give away.

Unfortunately, Sal's younger brother Oumar is named in the indictment for throwing a game while playing at Nicholls St during the '23-'24 season. He's currently a senior at Texas State and played as recently as a few days ago.

Sal's brother Oumar is one of those indicted from his time at Nicholls State.

Elijah Gray of Fordham is another one. He and another unnamed player tried to fix a game against Duquesne but failed lol.

Ezewiro in his one season at SLU helped ensure they failed to cover the first-half spread in a game against Duquesne that the fixers had bet $242,000 on. He also worked to recruit players at other schools into the scheme.

I don't see any names regarding La Salle players, but the fixers were trying to recruit players to influence a first-half spread in a game against Bona. Their bets failed.

Problem I would think, if u play like too much trash the coach will bench you. I predicted this when they started legalizing sportsbooks. As we see likely more prevalent at schools with low NIL $. These kids see everyone else making big bucks and probably think they should get theirs.

This is a real bummer to me...a lot of these schools listed are at the bottom level of D-1 (Nicholls, Northwestern State, NCA&T, Kennesaw, Coppin, New Orleans, Alabama St. etc.) where there isn't much NIL or revenue sharing money at all. Offering a college kid at one of those schools $20,000 to throw the result of a single half of single game is absolutely insane. Of course, the players are responsible for their decisions, but just sucks to see.

The NCAA really needs to do something with the variety of bets you can make on college sports. You can still have quality sports betting by betting on spread, O/U, ML bets in college sports but player props and quarter, half lines are just ripe for someone to come in and do exactly this. It certainly can happen in pro sports too but far too many players and game in college and it only takes a couple to rig games.

Definitely think they need to get rid of player props. Also think more states should implement the law that someone can’t bet on in-state teams for college sports. So can’t bet on Virginia teams while in Virginia. Kids should not be getting threats and harassed over these things and those are two measures that hopefully address that.

Seriously. Good thing we don't have a thread on the message board about random college game wagering...
Things done in moderation are okay. Problem is sports gambling has gone off the rails. For Instance ESPN, who has reporters talking about the game which can influence people, should not be also allowed to have a gambling site in my opinion. Barstool sports sponsored an OOC college basketball where they were actively talking about the spread during the game once. Carolina Panthers earlier this year tweeted the spread of player performances before the game. There’s advertisements literally on so many sports arenas. It’s gone too far and I think it’s a Pandora’s box that once opened will be very hard to reel back in.
