2026 running baseball thread

3 Wolfpack pitchers combine on a 1 hitter over 9 innings, while their offense cranked out 27 runs on 22 hits. This is one of those games to forget and move on quickly.

I think we're essentially screwed in the NIL/portal era for baseball. We'll never be able to keep decent players after a year or two.
Fully fund scholarships! Wood expressed it best. Without that, NIL/portal are secondary issues.

Get serious on athletics ($) or go home in this era.

But what does fully fund mean in this day and age? The limit used to be 11.7 scholarships, but now it's 34. Even the richest of the big boys aren't going that far...I believe Texas announced they are going to 25.

I get increasing the scholarship numbers to be competitive against our peers, but there's no way we can compete with athletic departments that are pulling in $100–$200 million or more in revenue all by themselves.

No reason we shouldn't be a top-4 team in the A-10 every year, given our history and location. I don't know how our facilities stack up against other A10 teams but I have to think they are at least top-half. That's where I would start: fund things to the level necessary to be in the mix for a regular season title every year. Embarrassing to have northern schools like Rhode Island outperforming us in baseball.

We play in the A-10. So we should fully fund each sport to dominate our conference. With the resources (compared to our A-10 peer group) that could be made available if we were truly committed to athletics, we should be winning at least half, if not more, of the league's championships.

Same thing with football. Expect to dominate the Patriot League.

Spiders bouncing back, up 3-0 over Cornell after 2. Two-run homer by RJ Johnson in B2. Looks like another cool, gray day at Pitt Field. Spring is slow to arrive in the Commonwealth this year, it appears.

A nice win on a beautiful day at Pitt Field with a nice crowd on hand. A good day on the mound for both Giordano and Topolski. A lot of players got playing time in this game. Time to go for the sweep, Go Spiders!

It looked as if there were a lot of people out in the right field seating.
Cornell had a good group of fans and many were in right field area. The University also put up some new stairs for a direct entrance up to the concession stand and press box area as well as another better set of stairs to replace the narrow metal ones to go up to first base side bleachers. These are nice improvements for fans.

Man those red pinstripe uniforms should be burned after this game. They are ugly. I also realize that's other mileage may vary.

Still 3-1 us, 1 out T6.
