2026 Portal Prospects

Mooney, Homenick, Robinson, Richardson, Harper are the only ones I’m sure about. AA I’m 75% sure will be back.
interesting. that sounds worse than it is. with all the graduates, the only ones you're not pretty sure are back are the seniors and McGlothin.

I was concerned about Robinson. feel he's been misused as a backup center. right now he's probably the STARTING center, though I suspect that will change if we're offering $500k+ to transfer centers.

I'll actually be surprised if all the seniors leave this close to a degree as you can't get a degree at most places after only being somewhere one year.

Robinson had nearly as many fouls as points his last 12 games. Yeah, I get it he is insanely athletic and all, but he shots 39% from the FT line, he has zero 3 point shot or jump shot and is too small to play center. Seems like we are trying to hammer a square peg into a round hole in Mooney's offense with him. I'm fine if he goes. I think maybe a team that plays more bully ball might be a better fit for him. He is not a good fit in our scheme.

What I am hearing is that the Spiders could have 9 new players in 26-27, with 10 or 11 also being possibilities. This past season there were 8 new players to the team and 2 redshirted. Talk about a do-over. Do we really think this staff is one that can form a top 4 A10 team in one year?
No, our staff can not form a top 4 A-10 from scratch. Sure, the past, current, and next VCU can do it with ease, as they have shown. But Mooney, surely you jest.

And as far as it being a complete do-over. Good. Outside of AA, there is no one of the roster I really want back or deserves to bback and that includes the redshirt freshman (cause we've seen redshirt freshman from Mooney before).

Unfortunately, the reality is we are just going to replace them with other ill fitting parts with obviously holes in their game. But at least they will be new ill fitting parts that will fool someone of us until we start seeing them play next year.

Hundreds of seniors transfer every year and get degrees at their new school.

Guess I’ll use this thread for our transfer interest that I see.

We’ve contacted Preston Copeland, a 6’9 F from Ball State. Nothing to get excited about from the stats - 4 points/4 rebounds per game.

I don’t know what receiving interest means. Maybe this was one of the supposed 500 texts that Mooney received from an agent and he gave a 👍 reply and the agent/recruit counts that as receiving interest.

However, if a guy averaging 4 points at Ball State are the kinds of recruits we legitimately have interest in, don’t bother playing next season, and just give the extra NIL increase to the women’s team or the lacrosse team.

And he is a tweener, and, in this era, it is hard to find a lot of minutes for a tweener.

It is ridiculous how they operate. A short time after talking about how we will increase NIL, we contact this guy. WTF are we doing?

I’ll give our staff some benefit of the doubt in that there was probably some basic communication, probably initiated by the recruits agent, and because we responded generically the agent/recruit counted that as “received interest” when they try to market themselves on the transfer portal as being sought after. On the flip side, it’s also like when Armando Bacot included us in his list of offers in a tweet many years ago. We were on that list but we never really stood a chance on landing him.

If memory serves me well, a lot of our transfer recruits that committed to us in recent years were guys that we didn’t hear much about our interest in them on social media.

I would love for our staff to go after a big time transfer and compete with other top mid majors and even some P4s for him. We have the money for that now, supposedly.

most colleges require at least two years of residency (approx. 60 credits) to confer a degree.
most senior transfers just go for basketball and don't get degrees.
I am prettty sure this has changed and most colleges do not require 60 credits at their school to get a degree. I know several senior transfers that got degrees.

This is what its come too under the Hardt/Mooney leadership. We are now a target for a guy wanting to transfer down from Ball St.!

Most schools have at least 30 credit (or one year) residency requirement. Some still have 60 (or two). So, senior year sports transfers at schools with former can meet the requirement by being there for the full year of their transfer season. But reality is it will still be difficult because of problems with transferring credits which almost always happens. Its very rare that you don't lose credits in the switch over because of "course alignment" issues (new school doesn't have an equivalent to a class from old school or new school has requirements that old school didn't about required classes etc.). Its very hard to transfer as a senior and get a degree from your new school and not have to stay longer to accomplish the degree. We (my AAU group) have had kids do this by transferring and going the summers both before and after their senior/transfer year to make up the lost credits (and even that only works sometimes and at schools with the 30 credits/one year requirement and not the 60/two). I think on the Men's side especially, you see a lot of guys transfer and NOT get a degree from new school and either never get one or have to double back to either new school or old school after basketball is over to finish up and get a degree.

UR requires 17.5 units in residency if you're coming in after two or more years elsewhere. That's considered two years of work at UR (35 units required for non-transfer students to graduate), although I suppose it's possible you could complete it with bookended summer terms.

Agreed - no offense meant towards Copeland. Maybe he comes here and averages 10 minutes and 4 points a game for us and is a valuable contributor. Only 5 guys start, so there is a place for players like this on any team.

It's just fitting that this is the first name we are mentioned with in an off-season where we have such glaring holes all over the court.

1 unit is 3.5 hours. so like I said ... 60 credit hours or two normal years.
it would be tough to graduate even with bookend summer terms. unless you want to go for 18 hrs per semester, which during the season would be no joke.

Agree with all of this, but I think the bottom line is if you are on pace to get a degree and want to get a degree after transferring your senior year, you can. And, let's not act like colleges don't make it as easy as they possibly can for this to happen, especially with online "classes" being so common.

You act like we have not gotten seniors to transfer here. We have. AJ and Johnston just made us thier 3rd school for their senior years. It is happening everywhere, and I do not think it is a factor at all when kids consider whether or not they want to transfer.
