Lehigh has gotten most of the preseason hype around the Patriot League, and among Spiders fans, but how about Holy Cross!...the Crusaders have won outright, or shared, the Patriot League Championship six consecutive seasons!...most would call Lehigh a "johnny come lately" versus that streak!...
last season new coach, Dan Curran, led HC to a 6-6, 5-1 PL record...Lehigh defeated the Crusaders to share the Championship and earn the FCS Playoff bid...
Holy Cross was picked in the Patriot's preseason poll to finish in 3rd place behind Lehigh and Richmond...four Crusaders were chosen to the All Patriot League preseason squad, including three on the offensive side of the ball where HC did lose some talent from last year's squad...on the defensive side of the ball lots of experience and talent return to take up where the 2024 defense left off, at, or near, the top of the Patriot League...
this game is also Richmond's Homecoming weekend...most Homecoming celebrations feature a football opponent that the home team expects to defeat handsomely for the returning alums...the Spiders may defeat the Crusaders, but aside from the opener versus Lehigh this may be the biggest Patriot League game of the season!
battling a team with six consecutive championships obviously means, if Richmond wants to be in that battle they'll have to go through Holy Cross!
