2025–26 opponent tracking

A fairly busy Saturday as many programs squeezed in games during exams.

In the A-10, things went about as expected except for Bona losing to Ohio in OT...that one hurt. GW hung with Florida for the first half, but the Gators opened the lead to as big as 20 midway through the half before GW got it to a final margin of 10. LIU over La Salle feels like a bad loss, but LIU is probably the better team. And I'm not hanging out here until midnight to get the result of Duquesne–Nevada. (Edit: Duquesne jumped out to a 16–8 lead, but a 12–0 Wolf Pack run gave them the lead that they held for most of the game. Things tightened up briefly early in the second half and then again in the final few minutes where the Dukes even manage to grab a 2-point lead, but they couldn't hang on for the W.)

Looking at OOC, Belmont was down 13 to UIC at the break, but erased the deficit and snuck in front in the first 9 minutes of the second half. It was a tight affair the rest of the way, but Belmont pulled it out to stay undefeated against everyone but the Spiders. ODU lost but it was to Mason, so that's fine. Elon picked up a W, while The Citadel was handled by South Carolina.

Only one A-10 game today, and it was the aforementioned ugly one that saw Loyola fall to Chicago State.

Looking at the OOC side, ECU stormed back from a 19-point halftime deficit to nudge by Buffalo, which had been getting some mid-major attention for their solid start to the season. A 7–0 run over the final ~3 minutes got the job done. Charlotte had a 5-point lead over Charleston with 5 minutes to go and then scored just 2 points the rest of the way to come up short.

12/14

Non-conference (1–1)
- ECU 73, Buffalo 70
- Charleston 74, Charlotte 67

A-10 (0–1)
- Chicago State 84, Loyola 75

Not sure where to put this, but what has gotten into UMass? Back to back wins against BC and Florida St. Not great ACC teams, but they started out 3-3 and are now on a roll.

Split result tonight with VCU getting the win and Gardner-Webb racking up yet another big loss as they continue their quest for a D-I win.

12/15

Non-conference (0–1)
- Wofford 83, Gardner-Webb 57

A-10 (1–0)
- VCU 84, Niagara 58

Florida State isn't much to write home about, but always nice to get a win over an ACC team as Dayton did tonight, and they absolutely blew them out.

In the OOC, Evansville made a three with 38 seconds left to pull within one of Belmont, but the Bruins held on for the win.

12/16

Non-conference (1–0)
- Belmont 83, Evansville 78

A-10 (2–0)
- Dayton 97, Florida State 69
- Rhody 62, Canisius 45

Always harder to get up for doing these on the day of a loss, but can't break the streak.

If you thought what our women did to Bethune-Cookman yesterday was bad, check out the men's side where SLU hung 112 on them to win by 59. Meanwhile, Loyola is on their way to another loss, down big to San Francisco playing at Chase Center, although they've whittled what was a 21-point deficit down to 14 at the under-4 timeout. (Edit: 85–71 final.)

ECU cruised over Presby while ODU prevailed over JMU in the rivalry battle among Spider regular season and exhibition opponents. And The Citadel unsurprisingly lost in a crosstown battle with Charleston. Southern Virginia picked up a W, but too bad it won't help our NET.

12/17

Non-conference (3–1, 2–1 D-I vs D-I)
- Southern Virginia (D-III) 95, Regent (D-III) 77
- ECU 74, Presbyterian 53
- ODU 77, JMU 68
- Charleston 82, The Citadel 78

A-10 (1–1)
- SLU 112, Bethune-Cookman 53

Bonus exhibition opponent (0–1)

In the A-10 tonight, VCU put up triple figures on American while St. Joe's rolled over Delaware State, but Davidson was just a step behind Temple the whole game and couldn't close the gap.

W&M kept up their winning ways over Chu and Radford, which were only down 3 with 4:30 to go, while Gardner-Webb needed to play a non-NCAA team (Rob Jones' alma mater Toccoa Falls ) to get a second win on the season. Furman and Charlotte both picked up wins, while Charleston Southern dropped 113 on North Florida. The only blemish on the OOC side was Southern Illinois falling to Illinois State in their MVC opener.

A very light night as is typical for a Friday, with La Salle falling to a solid High Point team and Belmont going on the road to blow out UC Irvine. Everybody but Noyes got on the floor, so I assume he's still injured.

Non-conference (1–0)
- Belmont 85, UC Irvine 58

A-10 (0–1)
- High Point 84, La Salle 72

Loyola shocks the world by beating Santa Clara in Santa Cruz, while Bona picks up a win and Dayton unfortunately loses at home to Liberty.

The rest of our opponents all lost as well, with ODU getting nipped by Coastal and JMU falling to Georgia Southern in OT, while Elon led Tech by as many as 19 in the first half, but things tightened up by midway through the second half and it ultimately went to OT with Tech winning a 1-point squeaker.

12/20

- VT 82, Elon 81(OT)

A-10 (2–1)

- Loyola 80, Santa Clara 78

Bonus exhibition opponent (0–1)
- Georgia Southern 96, JMU 92 (OT)

A-10 goes 2–1 today with SLU and Mason picking up wins, although Mason's game was much closer than it should have been. Loyola was actually up 5 at the half and Mason led by only 2 with under a minute to go. And La Salle got doubled up by Michigan...ouch.

On the OOC side, a double-opponent matchup saw Furman beat Charleston Southern, while Chu and Radford took down VMI and the Vols blasted Gardner-Webb. Southern Illinois fell to 0–2 in the MVC and sub-.500 overall at the hands of Bradley, while Charlotte picked up a win over UIC.

12/21

- Mason 86, Loyola MD 79
- SLU 93, UNH 79

Pretty busy day for the A-10, with the teams going 5–2 including a D-III win for GW. Losses included Kansas cruising over Davidson and St. Joe's experiencing the epitome of brutality by losing a buy game to Coastal. Duquesne absolutely roasted Canisius, while VCU rolled to an easy win over Rider.

Only two games involving OOC opponents, with UNC rolling over ECU and Elon cruising against D-III Greensboro College.

12/22

Non-conference (1–1, 0–1 vs D-I)
- UNC 99, ECU 51
