Give me the guys that play until the whistle instead of the guys that quit before the whistle
most coaches say "no shots" when running out the clock up a lot with under 30 seconds left. is that quitting or good sportsmanship?
if you're going hard when we're told to hold the ball and not run up the score, then don't complain about poor sportsmanship when you get bumped.

I've seen guys catch elbows for that, and I'm ok with it. sportsmanship goes both ways.

So, if a guy steals the ball while u are holding it running out the clock, you would coach your guys to cheap shot them in return? Interesting take, sman. I would tell my guys to laugh it off. We just kicked their ass....let them look silly for doing that.

no, I wouldn't coach kids to cheap shot anyone. if holding the ball and someone defends hard, I'd say go score. don't let it be stolen.
and Avila didn't cheap shot anyone.

I think the cheap shot is a bit debatable. Looking at the clip linked here, agree with sman does not look bad. But from other angle, clearly clearly does not make a basketball play pushes the player with two hands. Unless you are fighting for a rebound, that is always a cheap shot. But either way kind of sketchy by both teams. I guess emotions get high when you are playing high stakes games with a lot on the line. I can't remember what that feels like.

The only cheap shot was from the VCU player who 2 handed shoved the SLU playing in the back. Avila barely touched the VCU player and yeah if he is gonna steal the ball at that time, he should expect to be fouled.

VCU got their asses kicked and as happens far to often down there couldn't handle it with grace and humility.

It’s an unspoken thing. It’s like the d lineman who dive at o lineman legs when game is over on a kneel down. Safety thing. Don’t do it. Less safety issue with bball but it only leads to bad things like u saw with vcu.

But if vcu runs table & loses to SLU in a10 finals it may have been smart. With the crazy efficiency NET stuff it might have saved them 1-2 spots in NET from not having a bigger blowout loss.

I know the league spoke and won't do anything, but Evans really escalated everything with that shove to the back of #13 who hadn't done anything. luckily it didn't get ugly.

What about #1 Jones the ball handler clearing space? Not sure that was necessary when running clock.

Totally unnecessary and then he talked junk afterwards, and then after pushing a VCU guy with both hands he went running out of there, leaving his teammates there to cover for him. Big time garbage move by him. A lot of guys were at fault here, but this guy's actions started everything.

This is a strange one sided take here. Take the VCU hate away, and watch again. So, the only cheap shot was by Evans? What about #1 for SLU who did exactly what Evans did? And Avila barely touched him? Avila used both hands to shove the guy into the chairs. Yes, bad move to steal the ball and bad by Evans with the shove. But, let's not excuse Avila and #1 here.

Looks like SLU had a let down after the VCU game. Now have lost to a mediocre URI team and a mediocre Dayton team in the span of a week. Mooney must have gave the pep talk on winning on the road.

They are gonna find themselves on the bubble if they lose another one.
