12th Place - Looking up at Fordham

anytime Fordham leaps you by beating a GW team (in DC) that throttled you twice, while you put on the worst 11:22 of basketball in the program's history, you know what time it is. You know where you are as a program.

UR has not led in 3 games now, and 4 out of 5, is that correct? Last lead was before URI hit the game winner?

The worst 11:22 in program history.

Off the rails.

How low do we have to go? Last place?

Season ticket holders should revolt en masse after being given "the most home games in UR history" consisting of the dreck served up in the OOC and the coaching performances in A10 play.

Fordham, Lasalle and Duquesne all ahead of UR in the standings. Moonicorn.
There’s a decent chance we end up in the basement. Loyola has games against lasalle, Fordham and us, that’s 3 legit chances for wins. Plus some mid pack games.

If we end up dead last in the A10, that’s a tough label to shake. I don’t care what your contract says.

Fordham parent here . Jesuit schools focus on academics and character first . Sports come way, way after that . So when we jettison the Will Richardsons, Zarique Nutters and Elijah Grays of the world there’s a reason.
And I don’t get people traveling on a weeknight from Richmond to NY for a game , that’s crazy, unless you’re on vacation here.

Thank you for confirming that Moon has now been leapt in the standings by a school that does not care about athletics and should be playing in the Patriot league not the A10.

Losing at home to Charleston So. is one thing, being jumped by Fordham is about rock bottom.
Not a question of not caring, just about having priorities in order. And last time I checked Fordham did ok in 2022-23. Given the yearly roster rotation that now occurs , I wouldn’t get wrapped up in an off year. What is your ultimate goal for the Spiders? A spot in the ncaa final 4 like George Mason several years ago? These a10 teams are dwarfed by the big boys.

Should we get wrapped up in losing seasons in 3 of the last 4? It’s a distinct possibility that’s where we end up.

Happy for you that the Administration at Fordham is clear about its priorities and so its fans understand the expectations that are being set. Still seems like a rather odd endeavor to invest your time in a team that is expected to lose. No doubt the deck is stacked against the mid-major teams so post season success remains a long shot. But it can be fun to root for the underdog.

Yearly roster rotation is exactly what I hope the teams I follow avoid. Yes I expect new players every year, but I need a core of players to root for. When your coach can’t assemble a core, then as Seinfeld said “you are rooting for laundry” and that is where my fandom ends.

Haha. Jesuit focus. U must not be familiar with THE Jesuit institution, Georgetown University, and history of basketball program.

“Rooting for laundry.”

Forgot that. Hilarious.

then you should be DIII.

why give athletic scholarships? especially to athetes of questionable character? seems like your basketball coaches are bringing in athletes who aren't focused on academics and character in the name of wins.

that's one of the best posts i've ever read! Love the Seinfeld reference!

It's a balancing act. Dr. John Giannini who coached La Salle graduated more seniors than anybody. He maintained competitive D1 and academics (relatively speaking) without selling his soul to the devil. It's not a perfect system but we can strive for balance as best we can.

I have to question that Fordham jettisoned Gray.

Elijah Gray played 2 full seasons at Fordham and then transferred to Temple. It was found out after he left Fordham that he was involved in the point shaving scandal. Focus on character? Could have fooled me.
