Welcome to the new SpiderNation!

With the demise of Rivals at the hands of On3 and things not looking good for us to be able to continue our community there, we've decided to strike out on our own with a new SpiderNation forum site. It's taken a bit of time to commit to taking the plunge, and then a scramble to get things up and running, so this is certainly a work in progress and things will change over time as we continue to tweak the look and features we have here.

We tried to reaching out to On3 to see if they would give us the old data, but unfortunately we've been unable to get a response out of them about this, so we're starting from a clean slate. I'll try to recreate some of the things we had going like recruiting and schedule trackers, but it may take a bit and may not ending up being quite complete.

We don't currently have any rules in place beyond the standard boilerplate that comes with the forum package, but it should mostly be common sense. No personal attacks, no insults, no trolling, no spam/advertising. Anything beyond that sort of stuff should go without saying as being off limits. We'll see how things go and how much we need to formalize things, but we're a long-standing forum community, so we know how this all should work.

Do you need any contributions to help? If needed, just post.

Appreciate the offer. This site obviously isn't free to run and I'm willing to eat some of the cost, but we'll see. The most valuable things people can contribute right now are posts to help get the community going again.

I may very well try to set up something where people could contribute a bit of money and get a little badge, similar to Rivals but at a lower cost. Rivals also included a contributor-only forum in the package, although it hardly got any traffic so I'm not sure that bit is worth replicating. Would like to avoid having ads on the site and want to keep things as simple as possible as I'm not trying to make money on this endeavor.

I will happily donate to keep this forum going as I’m sure many posters here feel the same way too. Maybe you can set some sort of crowd funding SF. Thanks again for doing this! Missed the old forum too much. Hopefully we can all get the word out there for people to be aware that we have a forum again.

Definitely doesn't make any sense for SF to sponsor the site by himself.

From my Reddit poll which only had 24 respondents, there were only 3 people who paid for the "premium" Rivals subscription. So it appears there was an overwhelming number of people who did not pay anything including myself.

On3's fee is $12 month or $120/yr which is crazy high to me and I wasn't going to pay that amount just to be able to give my $0.02 on Spider sports. I quickly looked for a "free" option and landed on Reddit, which many of you joined thankfully since there was no other option and we would have totally lost communication without it.

This option is not "free" as there are funds needed for the hosting and platform fees. The good news is the more people that are willing to pay, the less money needs to be donated by each person. It may not be totally free, but we many be able to get pretty close. The first thing we need to do is to grow SpiderNation as much as we can. We think there were 150 active participants on the old Forum. We want to get up to that number of members again. We got to 73 members on Reddit, so I am hoping to see that number over here within the next week....Spread the word.

I did not pay the premium subscription with the old forum but count me in as someone who will happily pay to keep this new site up and running.

Thank you SF Spider and others for keeping it going this past month. SF you have been a great leader for this board informally in the past. Glad you have the capacity to be a more formal leader now. Never paid the old site but would be happy to help here.

Thank you SF. I’ve been checking daily and so glad we have a place to discuss again.

I’m more than happy to chip in for any type of hosting/server fees.
