We are being materially outspent

You could probably pick two top players off of VCU's team and combine their NIL earnings together and it would equal or surpass our programs entire budget. Comparing these two teams is like judging two chefs when one gets a stocked gourmet kitchen and the other gets a hot plate and a dollar menu. Same profession and same goals but wildly different budgets and realities. Any comparison that ignores that is missing the point but go ahead and get riled up because it's all Coach Mooney's fault that he is operating within these constraints as good as or better than anyone else could.

I assume Charleston So., Furman and Elon all have massive NIL budgets too.

80 minutes played, zero minutes in the lead this season.

Cry me a river.

You could pick 2 players off of our team and their NIL would be more than Ch Southern's, or Furman's, or Elon's budget. And, last time I checked 2 million is more than a hot plate and a dollar menu. So, Mooney is doing better than anyone else could? So, any other coach would be worse than 4-9 in the A-10 this year, and worse than 9-23 in the A-10 the past 2 seasons?

Excuses/constraints keep popping up as the years go by; academics, admissions, facilities, now nil, and then what? If you provided CM with SJohns budget or players how different would be the result? I want a coach who views CM’s constraints/excuses as opportunities. I want a coach who looks at UR and salivates at the opportunity and this applies to all hires at UR.

We outscored and outplayed VCU in the 2nd half. If we played even a decent first half we win this game. But let’s fixate on the NIL differences. Unbelievable.

A required part of the job right now is to drive interest, and dollars, to the program. If you won't do it, get a GM that will so that you can only worry about calling the plays. Mooney won't do it, and won't get a GM, and therefore isn't doing the job.

He's living in the past. The D1 he wants to coach in no longer exists, and isn't coming back. Mooney should move to D3 if he only wants to do what he's currently doing.
Excellent points Kneepad. I also am not crazy about this new NIL model. But I am not the $1.5 million leader. I know a D3 coach little bit. He was D1 assistant for several years. Even back then the recruiting grind and those aspects drove him out. Has made a nice career for himself and loves to coach without all that other stuff. Even went to the d3 championship game recently.

But Mooney wants his cake and eat it too. He doesn't want to do ALL it takes to be successful at the high mid major level now. But he want to complain about it.

The ship has sailed. No doubt about it.

Not how sports work. If we played a decent 1st half & the game was closer vcu would have played a better 2nd half.
Disagree with this. When we finally put real game pressure on them in the second half, they crumbled. But it doesn’t matter, we lost and CM was handed another few hundred thousand for his efforts

Interesting take. They were up 23 early 2nd half. It’s natural to coast a bit. U hope your team doesn’t do it but it’s common. Sure our better play had something to do with it too. But the natural let off the pedal had just as much to do w it no doubt.

And then when it got really urgent they executed & we crumbled. Going from 2 to 11 pts up.

Stealing PQ's words...JOC has the rough numbers thanks to sources, and VCU, Dayton, and SLU are all spending $5 million or more in NIL, while we're "at about the midpoint" of the A-10 at around $2 million.

Ok PQ… give Moondog more excuses for his horrific coaching record. Give me a break. Dump Mooney and maybe, just maybe, more money will come in.

Absolutely. Not one nickel from me and anyone contributing to this train wreck has more money than sense. If PQ has to go it alone maybe he'll wake up.

So NIL isn’t standardized? With all D1 scholarship athletes getting the same percentage of their school’s tuition?

I was certain that VCU and UR basketball players were getting the same percentage of their school’s tuition…

100 pct accurate. Told my wife that about the 6:00 min mark. It was more than predictable how the game would end.

Keep in mind this could be a false flag and our NIL/school payments are already much higher than reported.

I would not put it past them, or others. Downplay what u have say u r well behind to raise more $. Saying you have plenty & more than most isn’t exactly a fundraising strategy.

But for a school like Richmond I think more relevant. We don’t even disclose contracts for our most high profile highest paid employees like Mooney. Show us some receipts. Because I said so doesn’t really work here. When we can’t be transparent about anything with finances, even simple as Moon’s contract, it becomes a bigger ask imo.

Fordham must have a higher payroll than the Spiders since they are ahead in the standings.
