Terrible JOC article

No questions about other A10 members lining up good games this season. Just more excuse mongering (weak A10 - which hasn't seemed to impact another Richmond team's ability to garner good games and make the dance).

Sorry to start the day on such a negative note. I will say - I was sitting in my car looking at my phone contemplating getting out and jogging - and this article fired me up. Gave me some motivation for the day. Thanks JOC :)

But isn’t this what we’ve come to expect? Reasons a plenty of why we can’t instead of why we can and moving forward. Why not “we can and we will successfully adapt”.

Agree. Our schedule is not good at all and like it was discussed in the old forum seems to be done intentionally, which is sad.

The problem with the article is it doesn’t have a point. JOC likes to cite a bunch of different facts and leave it to each reader’s interpretation I guess.

Here is one good fact “Richmond has 13 winning seasons among its 24 in A-10 competition, with seven losing seasons, and four .500 seasons.” This shows me that UR simply hasn’t performed well enough in the conference it joined in hopes of becoming a regular participant in the NCAAs.

The second fact is this “Including the champion/automatic qualifier, since 2021 the league [A10] sent two teams to the NCAAs on each of three occasions, and one in each of two years.” This shows that the A10 is not a premier conference since as a whole it can barely get one more bid over its automatic qualifier. UR entered the A10 thinking that the conference would be able to garner 3-4 bids each season.

In short, UR Men’s basketball has a lot of work to do.

Half marathon?

I ran this race a couple times over 10 years ago. Finished very low but finished - it forces me to get in some shape and lose some weight. I will say, I noticed in the past if they did the categories by weight, I would be winner in the +220, but whose counting :)?

Good luck to your daughter!

This is every JOC article. A bunch of different bullets thrown together, some of which have only causal relationships to the others to "create" an article. Agree with someone else, the VCU beat writer gives so much more information. IMHO, JOC is just running out the clock on retirement at this point in his career. None of what he writes requires him to go out and gather information, he can simply google some random factoids and throw into together and call in an article.

Not defending JOC, but neither Mooney or Hardt are known for freely supplying a bunch of info. This may be a case of making the most out of what little info you can get.

I get that 204. Mooney and Hardt seem to operate on the premise that the less you say, the less people with notice (lack of results). But this article just seemed a big nothing burger to basically re-inforce the idea that "it is hard" , "woe is me" "poor lil ol Richmond in crappy A10". I probably wouldn't be asking the other tough questions either, he is probably sick and tired of the Richmond beat now.

As sec9 alluded, the coverage of our cross town team (hesitant to use rival since they own us now) is quite different, as well as the vibe. It's really crazy how the expectation under Baby Martelli is so high, and under Moon there is hardly a pulse. Just crazy.

right and Zach's coverage of the tragic passing of Jaylen Martinez was profound and moving including a very detailed article about the memorial service and mentioned both Mooney and Rouselle.

Even though I believe in local journalism, I probably would not keep paying for an rtd membership except for the fact that one of the favorite part of the day for my 85 year old mother (and huge Spiders bball fan) is reading and working the crossword puzzles in the RTD and New York Times at her Westminster Canterbury apartment.

Just a matter of time before the RTD goes by the wayside as a daily paper. Most articles are from the AP, and JOC is just bidding his time until he retires or is let go.

I just ended my subscription after many, many years.

I debated ending mine this year after an approximate 4X increase,
We only get digital and I cancelled after the latest increase they wanted to charge me. Then my wife signed up for a one year subscription deal and they just sent some sort of bs communication about adding an additional $5/month due to price increases due to tariffs. Tell me how that makes any sense.
