Spiders SoundOff

Little slow on the post @UR Fan 2. Of course, I am an audio subscriber so I listened awhile ago and had to hold my comments.

First, after seeing yet another YouTube still graphic I have the nickname - Cheshire Tom (Cat). Perhaps “Ches” for short.

Very glad Code Red was a success and I enjoyed participating in the RC wave. The women’s team definitely deserves support and the only thing I hate is the possibility that this is the final year of a great run. I’ll do my best to enjoy it while it lasts. I did already post the answer to your question about the game in 2000 (Wake Forest) as well as the official record in the Code Red thread.

As far as the risk of keeping your starters in the game, I have to disagree with that take a little. First, it wasn’t that all the starters were in at the same time. They were mixed in with the rest of the team and everyone played. There isn’t any more risk in playing in that game versus any other game. Plus, Maggie sat for a long part of the 2nd quarter and in the 3rd as well. She played 26 minutes and had played 36 in the game vs Dayton, which felt like a comfortable win watching at home. If anything, I was impressed with how Roussell managed the game balancing experience, NET ratings, etc.

As far as the Men’s game, everyone had to be impressed with Harper. He has improved since his early minutes in the OOC. In terms of the use of analytics, I don’t have a problem with trying something based on the numbers, but when it obviously isn’t working you have to change defensive strategy. Sticking to “the plan” is a character flaw.

Good analysis on Rhode Island. I want the Spiders to play a “no doubt” type of game, but it seems that we are going to see another close game at home. Hopefully the crowd can will another win like the W&M game.

Kind of lost me in the A-10 general talk and I couldn’t figure out exactly the point of that segment. I will say that the Bonnie’s faring as poorly as they have is rather surprising, but it does show that it is very difficult to build anything if you are changing out half of your team every year. Not sure how many players they lose and how many they can retain, but maybe it is a 2 year rebuild. We will see. Mooney does do a good job on the retention front, but it doesn’t do any good if what you are retaining is sub A10 level talent.

Keep up the good work.

Looking forward to the promised interviews.

Thanks for the thoughtful response and feedback. I do think Roussell will keep the run going. Next year may be a rebuilding year but that means he is only top 3 in the A 10? Sunday went a long way to show how big women's basketball could be at UR if we keep this thing going. It starts by showing up for the ladies.

don't know who you're looking for to interview, but would suggest it might be interesting to talk to someone on The Collegian staff about student interest, or lack of interest, in Spiders basketball...

fans here have speculated for years why student's interest as evidenced by attendance has been very sporadic...I don't recall ever reading a story from an actual student who might be able to shed some insight...thought one of the sports writer's might be interesting

enjoying the podcasts!
