Say it ain't so ...

UVA has similar requirement to UR in that 60 hours must be taken there to get a degree. That may keep help us keep Sweeney, or maybe it won't.

The only assistant/associate head coach that I would strongly advocate for if the head coach leaves is Paul Richards in men’s lacrosse if Chemotti goes to Duke (which looks to be a move down from UR at this point). Otherwise, young up-and-coming head coaches who have had proven D1 success at lower mid majors is the way to go.

Man it didn’t even cross my mind this morning listening on the radio with him possibility. Double sting since I hate UVA.

He’s earned it though and grateful for his time here. It’s a great move for him. Best of luck, except against us.

Perfect timing and place for Roussell to hit the road for a 6 year deal.He rode the Doogan and Ullstrom horse this season with very little depth.Next years UR lineup looks like .500 at best with or without Roussell.

Radice likely departs along spunky guard Ally Sweeney to join Hoos.

Radice goes for sure unless she gets head job here. But I don’t think Ally goes.

First, I don’t think Roussell is the kind to raid his old school. 2nd, I think he has cash and the mandate to go get better players than Ally (who I love as a player but may not even play there much once they finish signing transfers. Third, Ally is done bball after this year and not sure she wants to finish up as a one year person with other hired guns vs her friends at UR. And lastly, there really isn’t anything there aside from money that she can accomplish. UVA is not going to win a Natty next year and she can do 9 or has done) most everything else basketball-wise at UR.

As of 2024, Amaka Agugua-Hamilton was earning a total pay of $725,000 as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Virginia. She was recently fired in April 2026, and her contract included a school buyout of $2,572,917 as of April 1, 2024.
USA Today
  • Salary Details (UVA): $725,000 (2024).
  • Previous Salary (Missouri State): $300,000 (2022).

Roussell in Mexico on vacation now surely working the phones, lining up his staff and players(existing retention, portal retention, inward portal transfers)

This truly sucks. Aaron Roussell was our women's basketball John Beilein. Incredible coach and even better person. uva doesn't deserve him.

Unfortunately, it is very unlikely we can come close to matching his level in a new hire.

What stinks most about it was Roussell’s comments after the Nebraska game saying he doesn’t chase greener pastures and was complimentary of our school’s commitment to basketball. Has a great relationship with Hardt as well. He then immediately went to support 2 incoming freshmen at their high school championship wearing a Richmond sweatshirt, presumably to build for next year. He made a comment to Spider sound off that he accepts the challenge of making a 4th ncaa tournament in a row. He wasn’t in the mix, at least publicly, for other good job openings at P4 schools. All this gave the hope that maybe we found our Mark Few for women’s basketball.

Unfortunately that was not the case. This isn’t to blame Roussell in anyway. Of course he’s going to make a decision that’s best for him and his family as he should and he doesn’t “owe” this university anything. I wish him all the best, but still definitely stinks.

Personally I am fed up with college sports. It was once about pride in the school, and we did well in that department because our players loved Richmond. Now it is almost entirely about money with NIL and portal in place. I was hanging in by a thread because of Roussell and the pride our women's players showed by sticking with our school. I guess I've known the curtain would soon close for me, but I was desperately hoping that Aaron was true to his word in all the positive things he said about Richmond and how much he appeared to love it here. There was a small chance at least in my mind that he would stay and build our Lady Spiders into an elite program. It's really sad because Spider sports has been the #1 passion of my life for a very long time. I now see the dash of hope I had is gone. The school is not willing to put up what it takes to be highly successful.

Yes. Those comments after the Nebraska game gave me high hopes. I think others are right that uva is probably the only place he would have considered. I believe from speaking with him and Molly that they truly love the area and UofR.

Really sucks that mistakes off the court by uva's previous coach cost us in such a big way. It doesn't help that I despise uva anyway.

And yes, Aaron definitely felt like our opportunity to be the Gonzaga of the east in women's hoops.
