Both On3 and Verbal Commits are showing JRob going into the portal yesterday, but I don't see anything on his or other socials. Really hoping one of these sites got it wrong somehow and the other just went off what the first one was saying.

Anybody have info?

Ugh….I wouldn’t expect these sources to be wrong on this. I believe they have direct access to the actual portal that the coaches use. Also figured we might see a “he’s back” post from the team by now if he were returning.

If this is true, this will be one of the most frustrating failures of the signature Mooney redshirt development program. He was completely misused as a third string C last year in my eyes. I realize he didn’t show much ability to handle or create on the perimeter, but sticking him in the 5 spot in the mooney offense really inhibited his ability to tap into that elite athleticism outside of transition buckets.

He did have some of the worst advanced metrics in the A10 last year…but this would still be a bummer of a loss. What an absolutely brutal stretch of HS recruiting recently.
 
Bummer. Hope he finds a good spot. Maybe can get some of that Chu $ down at Radford.


Wow, what a let down between Jrob and Bryson. Wish them both well.
 
Tough to see JRob go. Not surprised given the limited minutes and who we have brought in the transfer portal. While he didn’t make a huge impact the first 2 years, he was still someone I was holding out hope for that he could flourish next year after getting 2 years of college experience under his belt and more confidence. Still think he has the potential to be a solid player at the D1 level. I just don’t know if his style of play matches our system and we played him out of position at the 5 spot too. Best of luck JRob, I’ll be rooting for you!

Lol. Mooney has absolutely been horrendous recruiting high school the past 5-6 years, but the McGothlin and Robinson class will go down as the singular worst Mooney recruiting class of all time. And he hyped the crap out of both of them.

I wanted to like Robinson so bad, he could be exciting, but his lack of actual basketball ability after 2 years in our system was pretty stunning.

That's the thing, we have had some guys develop here obviously. But way way too many high potential guys that did not. Head coach and assistants have to drive that and make sure guys are involved with the right trainers and programs in the off season. I'm more convinced that the guys that develop pretty much do it themselves.

Completely agree. They both played a similar position to Tanner and got beat out by Tanner each year, so that is all you need to know right there. Mooney sold them both on their potential just as he sold the fanbase.
