Glad Spider fans are making over to SpiderNation 2.0.

I am curious where members first heard about the Forum.

One choice and results display after you vote!

Thanks in advance for participating.

When I google Richmond Spiders forum, the top 2 searches are the ones for the old rivals page and On3. I don’t know since this forum is so new it hasn’t popped up yet, but would be great if this came up at the top or at least first page of a Google search for Richmond spiders forum in the future.

Hopefully word can spread quickly and many old posters and even new posters will join. Looks like we have 38 members now. I don’t know how many the old site had, but the reddit page created has 71 members. Would be great to get up to the 70s by the end of next week. Keep spreading the word!

Yes the Reddit got up to 73 total members I believe over close to a month and I am sure many were old Forum members.

The best known intel is that the old Forum had 300 members, but of course that site was around for quite awhile and some number of accounts were likely abandoned. Perhaps 50% of that total were active in a given month and of course the “regular posters” are probably half of that again.

Definitely looking forward to seeing old usernames pop up again and of course hope we can grow the community as well.

Any sort of social media outreach is great way to get the word out there. I saw a post on the facebook group. There is also this post on X (formerly known as Twitter). If anyone here has an X/Twitter account and would like to reshare/retweet this post, could be helpful to reach a wider audience.

Didn’t think about Twitter when I created the poll this am. Added.

I posted this in another part of this forum.
in the I am working on linking this forum with other forums in the Patriot League, with a friendly invite. The more links we have, the more the algorthyms (sp?) will identify this site with Spiders Sports. This will improve your SEO scores and drive traffic to the site. In addition, we should let the school know. You should also try to get on some local sports talk shows (Bob Black) and get some free press in the RTD (if you are interested). In the age of college sports commercialization, this is bastion of free sports talk.

I do hope that board takes off and the gluttons at ON3 who destroyed our original board, get zero members for their new pay to play message board. Eff those people.

It would be hard to believe anyone would join On3 for its Forum (if it ever launches) at this point unless they import all the old history. Even then it will be a quiet place with a low volume of users.

There is a cost to host this message board and currently SF has borne all the costs. His first priority is to get the participants back onboard and then worry about funding. The good news is the annual costs are reasonable as compared to the On3 model.

I am planning to ask for a refund of my Rivals renewal that I paid in May, but I'm also just kinda keeping quiet for now to see if they ever actually do migrate our board and if so, to try to pull some more of the currently lost info over to here.

As for here, I've been a bit busy but am trying to set up an easy system for people to help support the site and get a bit of flair by their name. Contributions would be optional and far cheaper than Rivals was or On3 is, essentially targeting to roughly break even. Appreciate the offers of support, and will keep you all updated.

You are cool. Well done.

Glad you picked up the ball SF. Message me about use of SpiderNation.com. That is my domain, but happy to work with you.
I thought Rivals.com owned Spidernation.com. i thought the school paid for the message board. Was that not the case?

No, the school was not involved. URFan1 can speak more to the arrangements, as he was responsible for it in various incarnations as SpiderNation moved platforms several times before handing off to 05 awhile back.

SpiderNation.com preceded the latest ~20-year run at Rivals, at which time the domain redirected to a Rivals address.

A 20 year run is impressive. Too bad On3 had to destroy it.

The last Wayback Machine archive of the old spiderfans.com from April 2003 before things got switched back over to Rivals. And at one point the administration asked us to change from SpiderFans to SpiderNation, but again, I don't recall the exact circumstances of that.

No the school was not associated. I paid to keep the board going for years. In the beginning, before we got so negative the cut from Rivals actually paid for the board and put in a few extra bucks that went in donations to UR.
