OT: Coaching Changes

Will be really interesting to see how Miller does at Charlotte. I think he will do well there, think he is still very motivated unlike a Archie Miller, but we shall see.

Bennett's kids have finally all graduated high school. Wife put the kibosh on him taking any other job than Cal while the kids were in school because she didn't want to move and uproot the family.

If he's smart, rent in Tempe, then move back to Orinda/Moraga after you retire. Beautiful area.
 
Seeing more and more chatter listing Schertz as a possibility in the UNC coaching search. Lot of chatter about Schertz in general with power openings.

Sounds like he turned down Syracuse before they hired Gmac.

I have a feeling he might be out the door depending on how dominoes fall.

On Tuesday afternoon, several hours before the North Carolina announcement on Davis, Spectrum News asked Schertz if he was 100% on being back next season.

“You're in a terrible spot as a coach because if you say, 'man, I'm 100% back' and then something changes and something occurs and you're not back, then, 'oh, man, you know, he lied.' And if you say, 'man, I'm considering all these other jobs' and what you're distracted and you're not locked in, there's no right answer,” he said.

Right, and now it seems Schertz is being mentioned for every job. So there could be a few more that are hard to pass up. At some point, coaches realize that the iron may be the hottest it is going to get. He may very well have a good year again at SLU, but lets say he fades a little and has a couple good, but not great, not NCAA years. He may not get these opportunities again.

Yep, Classic Will Wade. He sure did a lot of complaining and throwing his players under the bus at NC State this year.
 
someone said UNC is looking for a big splashy name. Oats would qualify. or Todd Golden. or Dusty May. I'm just throwing names out ... no idea if any of them could be had.

I don't think Schertz qualifies as a big enough name, though. .

Oates would be interesting. He is a pretty big ass and his players keep getting busted for significant felonies. Not sure how that fly at UNC. But man, from a basketball standpoint, he would make UNC a really exciting watch.
