I’m definitely not surprised, writing was kind of on the wall. But for sure, it’s a new world and if it’s pay for performance, then you gotta bring something.Yeah...pretty surprised by this. I'd think the staff probably had some sort of role in suggesting/making this happen.
Agreed on the bummer with the degree, but this is a new era. From a basketball and program success perspective, we can no longer afford to be committed to guys who simply aren't A10 caliber players. Absolutely recognize his commitment, attitude, effort etc...but that can't be enough to stay on a roster anymore. I'd hope Mooney and staff are finally starting to see that after the last two seaons.
Wishing Mikkel the best and will be rooting for him to be an impact player and his next school.
Why hate the model? This is his choice. The model has given him the choice to stay here and get a degree, or go find a better basketball fit elsewhere. He chose a better fit, and I wish him the best.Another reason to hate this whole model .. 17 year old kid comes to Richmond from Canada after re-classitying .. while not all-A10 quality (or possible starter on higher up teams) plays hard and has a great attitude from what I have seen .. and now will I assume be transferring to a lower level school and not getting a UR degree.
Love AA and he clearly needs to be our leader next year but still hoped for a model where Mykkel would contribute etc in quality bench minutes - best wishes to him and hope he gets at least $$ worth not having a UR degree at age 30 given can't think he has much of a chance to play even European upper tier leagues.
Learned a few times not to go back and forth with you my forum friend so we can just disagree on this topic ... can't wait to see hopefully a big guard that we get committed in the next few weeksWhy hate the model? Some of you act like a UR degree tops everything out there, and, while I have a UR degree, I could not disagree more. Do you seriously think Tyne or anyone else who transfers from here will be struggling financially at age 30 because they don't have a UR degree? I guess I never looked at my UR degree and felt that made me better than anyone when comparing schools. I have always wanted people to be impressed with me for my character, not my school.
Yikes. Sorry for any bad back and forths I guess I caused in the past. But, at least I never said any of our players would be suffering financially at age 30 without either a UR degree or Europe hoops. That's just wrong, man. Like, a real crappy thing to say about someone. Tyne seems like an intelligent, easy to like guy. My guess is he will be just fine at age 30.Learned a few times not to go back and forth with you my forum friend so we can just disagree on this topic ... can't wait to see hopefully a big guard that we get committed in the next fwe weeks
Everything you said is accurate, but Moon kept sending Tyne out as a starter. This needed to happen. These guys are all getting paid to play large sums of money, so I shed not one tear for the outdated "student athlete" model that we used to have. Tyne seemed like a nice kid and all but he was not performing near the level he was paid to perform at, so byyee.
There are a couple other players on our roster that I hope we see similar announcements as well.

Never said that at all. I was talking about Tyne. Which is why I said "his" choice. I didn't say everyone's choice. Mooney might tell Tyne his playing time would be cut, but I don't think we are running a program where we tell guys you are flat out kicked off the team and can't stay.Very presumptuous of you to assert that everyone in the portal is there by their own choice.
Nope. U usually get 1 night to prove yourself when getting laid. For better or worse, no one gets multiple years to prove themselves anymore when they're getting laid. Except Mooney, of course.
Maybe 2x if you’re lucky.Nope. U usually get 1 night to prove yourself when getting laid.
Agreed, we aren't "pushing" people out. But we can certainly tell them the program is moving in a different direction regarding their playing time and their isn't going to be NIL money available for them. Tyne could have remained on the roster, maintained his scholarship, graduated from UR, if that is what he really desired.yeah I'm with VT on this one. nothing from Mooney indicates he's pushing anyone out, especially a senior. and especially Tyne who's been a starter all this time for him.
I'm going to assume this is fully Tyne's decision. I wish him the best. he played hard.
