Keeping the momentum moving forward

I hope I don’t speak too soon, but with the excitement that Roussell is staying here hopefully suggesting that he sees Richmond as a long-term career path, I was wondering how we all can continue to keep this momentum moving forward. Not just as fans and showing the university and coaching staff how much we are appreciative of what this coaching staff has done in building our program but also from the university perspective as a whole.

As far as the university goes, I really want us to give the NIL resources necessary for our coaching staff to recruit at a high level. I saw online that the new coach for Northwestern will have an $800K salary and $1 million in NIL. We better be darn close to that ourselves with both salary and NIL.

Doogan and Ullstrom are certainly irreplaceable and we don’t need to find players who exactly fill their shoes, but I want to see us get a couple players with size on the portal and players who really know their role. Our best team was the 2024-2025 season and it wasn’t because of Budnik, Doogan, Ullstrom, and Sweeney. Jimenez, Katie Hill, Siobhan Ryan, and Camden were all very solid players who played their roles perfectly.

I would love to see our staff try and take the next steps in recruiting. Either mid major players who really excelled at a lower level or P4s who perhaps didn’t have the right opportunity to showcase their skills.

As fans, I hope we continue to support the women’s team both with donations, starting with this giving day and also our presence. Continue going to the games and going to the preseason events that I get emails about. Let’s show the team that the support is going to remain just as strong if not stronger next year even with a newer team.

Yesterday The Athletic ran an article about Alex Ohanian (Reddit founder) and his multi year commitment of $750k annually to the UVA WBB team and the corresponding success of this year’s team. Do we have any tech bro alums who want to emulate this?

As a school, we can commit to revenue sharing directly for Roussell and staff to have a competitive budget. If the men’s team is getting $4 million our women’s team should absolutely be getting at least $1 million.

I don't know if tech bro is the right word for him lol, but the closest person who immediately jumped to mind was Mike Walrath. He's been involved with a number of startups and he and his wife Michelle (both Spiders) gave the lead gift to the Well-Being Center through their family foundation. No idea of their interest in women's hoops though. :)
