Absolutely. That’s why the NIL excuse was one of the most ridiculous ones I’ve heard. By all accounts it appears that UR is committed to at least doubling the NIL this next season. That money could’ve help buy out his contract. It’s kind of funny the extents we’ll go to actually act like a real program and show that we’re committed but it’s only out of wanting to defend keeping Mooney as our coach and not because we actually want to be a top program. You could give Moon the Duke players, and they’d underachieve due to the coaching.
It’s CM - his offensive, defensive, and rebounding strategies as well as in game management. Money won’t fix that.
I read this last week and thought about posting it, but didn’t get around to it. There is no doubt that the current situation is not sustainable. The football programs are the major issue and UR long ago took itself out of that race by sticking to FCS football. The same thing is coming for basketball in my opinion. There will be 2 levels of D1 competition and UR will be in the second level. Mooney has already commented on this very thing recently. I don’t want to spend the time looking for the video, listening and marking it. This is one reason why I have to laugh at the “infusion of cash” plan that is be bantered about for next year. I suppose it comes down to it is easy to spend other people’s money. All I know is there won’t be any of my money involved in this fiasco. Good luck to all buying tickets for the MooneyBall lottery. The results would bankrupt our athletic department. Louisville is running out of money. I saw this on the football board, courtesy of 32counter. It makes sense to put it here.

Louisville officials say the clock is ticking on college athletics: 'The math no longer works'
You probably didn't wake up this morning worried about federal antitrust law.www.wdrb.com
it's also the players ... which of course is 100% on Mooney. It’s CM - his offensive, defensive, and rebounding strategies as well as in game management. Money won’t fix that.
I think you bring up fair points. I don’t think anyone is questioning that having more NIL makes it easier to get better players which makes it easier to win more games even with the same strategy. The fundamental issues are.it's also the players ... which of course is 100% on Mooney.
he has had teams that win. obviously not nearly often enough but we did go 15-3 in conference just 2 years ago. it's not that his offense can't work, or even the switching defense. he needs better players.
like probably all of you, I'd like to move on. his back-to-back 5-13 seasons should be enough to make that happen if you're a serious program with expectations. and we are that based on our investment. but we're not moving on. CM gets another year. and I'll bet he wins ... as unpopular as that is right now.
if we're serious about bumping our NIL today, we're going to be substantially better next year ... despite the bare cupboard. we have 2 spots open and we should expect multiple transfers out. nobody returning other than AA deserves a raise. that means we have an absolute boatload to spend. probably more in this one year than even the highest NIL teams in the A10. find the right guys. they'll be out there. I expect 3 new starters not currently on our roster at a minimum.
a better coach might get more out of them, but end of the day it's still the Jimmy's and Joe's.
right. not saying we'll win the A10. but we'll win 18-20 games with a bad OOC schedule.Agree with sman, unfortunately if we are able to buy better players Mooney can win. I just dont think he will win commiserate with whatever the talent level will be. And "winning" will include a bad schedule. But it will allow Hardt to just smirk and keep doing nothing.
