Solid outing for the ladies. Took charge early and never looked like they were in trouble. Sweeney really stepped up today and was excellent.
That said, both games this weekend looked similar in that we got out early and looked good, but then got stale and kinda sloppy and didn't put them away at all and just didn't look as good at either end of the floor after taking control. Need to work on that and get better because we are probably playing Doogan (and probs Sweeney too) too many minutes. She looked a bit slower and her shot flattened out in 2nd half and i think its really just too much to ask her to go 40 min on back-to back nights. This is especially true because her usage is so high on offense and she has to work so hard with all the attention she draws, plus she has to be our big rebounder as well. Its a lot and she is spectacular, but one simple way others can help is simply playing well enough to put people away and let her cut the minutes down a bit!
Coach is also still searching for a "preferred" unit I think (wrote about this in one of the other threads). Had moved Simon into first 5 and i thought he might stick with that group, but he abandoned that and went to Persichetti to start today. But then Ava didn't play too much today and Simon even less. Not sure where he is headed. Think he likes Dewey and Ava as the "other two" offensively, but Simon and Newell defensively. Dewey got some good minutes today because she was our best match up against their big (but slow) center and she did a good job. I think he has settled basically on a 7 man rotation with those 4 and the big three (plus Wright when he really wants to go with our best defensive line-up). But it seems like he still isn't sure who to put out with whom at crunch times. Will be interested to see if the roles stabilize any with conference play or he continues to sorta mix and match around the big three.
