TV Announcer about Mooney "You can't teach physicality"

No? Well if you can't teach it then recruit it.
That is such a hs comment by the announcer, Rick. You teach physicality from day 1 when the seniors step on the court or the field or into the pool (polo not swimming) and hammer the frosh establishing the pecking order. It’s not bullying and it’s not hazing, it’s teaching the youngins the game. One of my happiest moments as senior water polo player was when the frosh started fighting back. I knew the were beginning to understand the physicality of the game.

Not figuring him out. Has games when he can shoot lights out. Then he goes invisible in other games. We’ve seen this cycle in and out this season. Today was another out game. Repeat - not figuring him out.
Crazy. He has 8 games with 16 or more points, 9 games with 7-11 points, and 11 games with 6 or less. I was expecting a lot more production.

To start this game, they left Tanner wide open. Honestly, a great strategy. He missed 3 three pointers - all badly - in the first 4 minutes. Lopez took the other 2 shots and Walz may have taken a shot as well. But then every time Tanner got ball out near the 3 point line he killed the offense because he was never actually looking to shoot even when wide open.

I knew it was a loss at that point, given that LUC had 4 bad turnovers in 8 possessions and they were winning. Spiders came out playing Moonball - slow, lethargic pass-only offense, that gets the wide open shooter the shot, even if he's a 30% on the year. Let him jack em up. Moonball. Never pushed tempo, never pushed pace of the game and tried to run.

The issue is the system, which is synonymous with the coach. It doesn't prioritize getting the best players the ball all the time. It doesn't prioritize understanding what style best fits the players on the court.

I was shocked to see on the espn gamecast that tanner fired up a bunch of threes. Now I understand why.

Felt this as it was happening, but a check of the pbp confirms it - from the time Lopez made a 3 pointer at 11:22 of 2nd half to cut LUC lead from 14 to 11,

Lopez made a 15 footer at 8+ minute mark
Aiden made driving layup at 1:45 mark
Tyne made 3 pointer at 0:45

The rest of the UR points were FTs. Quite literally if LUC had just stopped fouling and just held the ball for 30 seconds each possession they would have won by 10. They were incapable of this because they are terrible and play a walk on at PG, but the point stands.

We cannot score in the halfcourt sets some games (feels like 1 in 2 games) - I'm the most broken of broken records, but our offensive system is just trash in the halfcourt most of the time. I feel like half the LUC fouls were in UR's backcourt or on rebounds, so not like all of them were because we forced the defense to commit them.

He’s an enigma wrapped in a mystery. His roller coaster of production makes no sense.

And how the F are you late to walkthrough for a road game? Don’t they all stay in the same hotel and have roommates? That’s the ultimate don’t give AF move for an upperclassmen.

Excellent leadership by Mooney. Make certain everyone stay up late. Have players show up late to practice. Maybe take some accountability for your losing not the players?

It's about expectations, if coach lets them know anything less than best is not acceptable most will try to reach their best.
