Game Thread - LaSalle @ RC - Sun Feb 22 2pm (ESPN+)

All A-10 player
Next to last home game of the regular season and our senior game. LaSalle is 15-11 overall and 8-7 in the A10. ESPN projects a 96% chance of a win .. similar to GW projection. Pretty sure, we'll see a rested and different team come out tomorrow on what will be a stormy day in the RVA. Spiders cruise 75-55.

Like your optimism and hope you’re right.

It’ll be a good test to see if the Women have gotten well.

Explorers come in red hot. Have won four of last five and three in a row, including win that knocked Rhode Island from unbeaten in A-10.

After what we saw last week we have to be ready.

Go Spiders!

This is a now a very big game. Not for at-large or seeding etc. but we simply need to get right in this game and play well. We need to get things turned around and get headed to peaking for the A-10 tourney. Still like our chances to dance via tourney if we can show here that whatever ailed us was temporary and we are back headed in right direction and then can keep getting better to round out the season!

Not able to watch this one, but seems to be a struggle for the Spiders again, down 21–16 after one. Shooting numbers still not great, and La Salle shooting it well.

Another rough start but more of a defensive problem this time. Energy looked a bit better and shooting was fine. Offensive rhyme still not as sharp as we need to be. Defensive was a problem and LaSalle also shot it better than reasonably expected. Need to keep progress going - - still a long ways to go. And I will state again that we need to play better regardless of win r loss here!

Big lift from Scott(!) and Wright and great energy pickup from the all freshman (including those two plus Ava).
Huge run (15-2) and Scott definitely the ring leader on both ends. Not sure where she has been all year but she looks outstanding right now. Kudos again to the coach who went to her last game and got production and came right back with her for extended minutes today and she seems to be just what the doctor ordered with energy and aggressiveness on both ends.

Really, really strong in 2nd qtr on both ends. Can't say enough about Scott. She single handily seemed to get the offense back in rhythm and everyone else followed. Hard to actually overstate how impressive it is for someone buried on the bench to come in and play so confidently and so aggressively.

Minutes got a little skewed all around as Coach rode with the group through the big run. Dewey at 18 minutes is too many. Ally only having to go 14 is a really good thing in the long run. She was amongst those who looked a little warn out the last few outings (thats more credit for Scott who forced Coach to keep her in and Ally on the bench). Wright didn't get much run (scott seemingly got a few of her minutes too).

Regular first group out there to start 2nd half and it wasn't going great and Coach would have none of it. Quick hooks for a number of people after some defensive lapses. Wright brings the energy right off the bench. We will see how the rest work ot. Scott immediate impact again with aggressive defense and forces her way to basket and gets to the line

More Scott again - - 5 more quick points plus a bucket and a free throw that both rimmed out. 15 in 13 minutes and setting the tone defensively.

The thing is that she is covering for some continued struggles for some others. Can't shake Lasalle here as we keep making mistakes on defense.

Quick 6-0 run to end qtr. helps out.

Great lift all night from our freshman guards. Ava, Scott and Wright have all done some really good stuff tonight and really brought energy that we really need. Whats impressive is the Coach clearly told them what he needed from them in this tough stretch and they have responded. Great coaching to know what they could do and have them prepared to do it and then trust them to do the job!

Only negative to me is that Maggie still looks a little tired and she is logging heavy minutes again. Shows up especially on defense right now. She can shoot it in her sleep! She is still a great player but the heavy burden is a long road for her. Would really like to see us find ways to get her some time off.

Great minds - - Maggie out for Campbell at 5 min mark! All starters out!

But wait - - Maggie and Rachel back in at 4 min mark! I don't get that. Up 23 and the bench group has been great all night. Hoping this is just so he can pull them out one at a time on Sr. night for an ovation!

Lots of good stuff tonight - - but I am not ready to declare us out of the woods yet. Great big step on the road to getting back to our peak but still work to do.

Scott was an absolute freaking revelation and tops the list. Did it on both ends and contagious energy!
Freshman guards were all great.
Limited Rachel and Ally to under 30 minutes (only 21 for Ally) which is good long term.

Even some little things - - Simon seemed to get more aggressive and on the boards better. She struggled a bit however defensively at times.
Wright found some offense which is key because we are so much better defensively with her on the court.

Still some problems defensively at times.-- We had stretches at times where we good but also times we were decidedly not very good!

And Maggie still seems a little tired to me. Need to keep trying to get her back to full speed.

A good win on Senior Day. Scott and Wright have their highest point totals of the year at 20 and 11 respectively and it was a solid team effort today. Hopefully, that energy carries right over to Wednesday night! Go Spiders!
