i mean you cant really say this anymore. We are a 100 top NET team who somehow won a Q2 and a Q1 game. If you beat the quad 3 teams, we'd have a decent resume. We shouldn't give passes out

JOC reports in RTD that Elon picked preseason 12th out of 13 CAA teams.
We’ve played well this season although vs a weak schedule. We’ve also looked really dynamic at times. But we need to keep things in perspective due to the schedule OOC. Last night shows we have the ability to not be able to adjust to a zone defense, commit 20 turnovers, and lose to a team we should be able to beat. And keep in mind that Elon is no Dayton, no VCU, and probably not even a mid pack A10 team. We can’t have many repeats of last night. The jury is out and begins 12/31/25.

Meaningless. In the A10, Loyola Chicago was picked 5th out of 14 teams with 2 first place votes! Anyone think that is representative? Using a blind guess as a data point is simply fodder.
However, I am in the boat with @vt4700 who said none of this ultimately matters. The only games that matter this year are the A-10 tournament ones. That is the die that the schedule makers cast.
Until then I will have fun commenting and watching what I expect to be very close conference games. The A10 isn’t a strong conference, but it is rather balanced top to bottom. I haven’t seen a dominant team and as many as half the teams could win the conference tournament.

This is my take too. We have a fun team to watch but the jury is certainly out on how good they are because they are not being tested with this pathetic schedule.
I knew this would be a tough game for us, not because Elon is a great team, but because Mooney sucks on the road and this team has not been really tested due to the schedule.
couple questions since I didn't watch ...
was the zone a problem for AA? only 5 shots (and only 1 from 3) and no assists in 26 minutes. was he unable to penetrate the seams? did we not push the ball at all?
and with the 20 turnovers ... were they forced by double teams in the zone? thanks.

Sadly I’m not surprised to see us struggle on the road against a zone.
One thing that surprised me, that I never though I’d say, is how much higher quality the Flo app is than espn.
This is more an indictment of ESPN than praising of Flo, but ESPN has slowly downgraded their tech to the point where it is now behind the functionality ESPN3 had in 2010.
On Flo I could actually fast forward. ESPN no longer allows for quick fast forward, so skipping through a commercial break can take 30-60 seconds. On mobile/ipad you have to tap the screen 4 times in order to fast forward 10 seconds. Then 3-4 seconds to buffer before 4 more taps. Skipping two minutes is an arduous task.
The pricing is the downside but wow, Flo has upped their game. ESPN only has one thing going for it and that’s that it has airing rights for games. They are the true bottom of the barrel in every other aspect of sports viewership.

I had the unfortune of watching that game last night.
To answer Sman's questions - we did an awful job of penetration against the matchup zone altogether. We basiclaly threw the ball into a big man in the high post and then passed the ball around the perimeter. Lot's of really dumb mistakes like cross court passes going through guys hands or guys throwing really lazy passes. Elon applied virtually zero pressure all game and did not double team at all. It was entirely self-inflicted. Mooney in his post games comments even acknowledged the TO's were just sloppy play rather than good defense. AA just looked a bit more tentative than normal, not sure if he didn't like the match ups but I don't recall him taking the ball to the hoop.
To Native's comments - I don't care if that Elon team was picked 1st or 100th in the CAA, they are not a good basketball team. W&M is far better in the same conference after watching both games. That was an UGLY loss no matter how you slice it. That was entirely Richmond losing the game rather than Elon winning it.
I don't find that loss meaningless. I actually find it very meaningful. Any time you lose to an inferior opponent should be unacceptable. It showed that this team completely lost focus and was not able to regain any intensity or focus throughout the game to turn the momentum. I kept waiting for one of the team leaders to step up and take over the game and will the team to victory but instead found that Johnston had to be taken out of the game because he kept turning the ball over, tyne was almost entirely an after thought and the list goes on and on..
Now as we all knew, there was zero hope of an at large bid because of the schedule so in that sense, it really doesn't change how the team should view the rest of the season. If anything, it should serve as a wakeup call that you need to show up with focus and intensity every game.

Sounds like a conscious business decision versus a technology limitation. Seems to me that most streaming services are forcing viewers to watch commercials to me. The only thing I like is most show you the duration so I know how long to tune out.

Oh also former Richmond coach Darius Stokes is now an Elon assistant coach, he was pumped as the game concluded to get that W. They showed him celebrating. I guarantee he had the scout and knew the matchup zone would cause issues for the Richmond O.

One more thing, I can't tell you how many WIDE OPEN 3 pointers Elon had in the second half, it was seemingly every 3rd possession.
I agree with you. My wife and I had this same conversation and it seems to be happening with a lot of sports streaming apps on-demand.
I don’t think my review of Flo will be popular here, it was just something that really surprised me. I can’t believe I’m saying this in 2025. If all content was the same I would rather subscribe to Flo than ESPN, and it honestly would be a very easy decision
Agree. I always want a top 4 seed because, even though we did win 4 straight in 22, winning 3 games and not 4 is obviously a much better path to the A-10 title. So, to me, the games will finally matter once A-10 play starts. We were never getting an at large with a 300+ SOS, no matter what our NET was.

I watch Flo more than ESPN these days, anyway. They have most of the minor league hockey games, and a lot of D2 and D3 sports as well. They’re also big into racing, too. Sure, the app is not perfect but I haven’t had the nightmares that others have had.
I also did not watch.

The A10 is probably going to go like it does most years... We'll mostly win at home, mostly lose on the road, beat LaSalle in the play-in round of the tourney and then get smoked by SLU or Dayton.
This was my experience in the past as well. I refused to buy for the women’s games earlier this season and now I’m regretting that. Maybe I just caught Flo in the equivalent of a 50 point night
