Game Thread - Davidson @ RC Sat 1/31 4:30 PM (USA Network)

RVA is now under a winter storm watch starting at 1am Saturday but there’s still a lot of uncertainty with this system. Makes me wonder whether the game gets rescheduled, starts earlier, or if fans end up getting locked out. That said, I’m actually feeling optimistic about this one - projecting a Spiders win, 65–63.

that's optimistic?
if we don't win Saturday hosting Davidson, there's little hope for another win until 2/21 hosting SBU.
and honestly, if we don't win Saturday we can start talking about a realistic possibility where we lose out.
6-12 in conference is starting to look optimistic.

yeah somewhat optimistic - fear they are a bit better than we are I'm afraid but think we will win ...

The wheels could come off if we lose on Saturday. Next 4 games are. We won't be favored in any of them.

@Rhody: They already beat us at home
George Mason (we aren't winning that)
VCU (VCU played a bad game and still beat us pretty handily, yeah we have homecourt, but that hasn't been much of an advantage for us anyway)
@Davidson (well if we lose to them on Saturday, anyone expect us to go there and win).

So, if we don't win, we could legit be staring a 9 game losing streak.

97, that post is 100% true, and as a result 100% depressing. But, at 3-6 A-10, I think the wheels have already come off. These last 2 seasons have been so painful.

I would not say the wheels came off already as that would mean the wheels were actually on at some point! The program has been stuck on the ground for some time and we all saw what the “plan” for this year was and no one liked it.

All that aside, Davidson is another team we should beat at home and since they have the same “finesse style” of basketball as UR this has to be a game that Mooney believes the Spiders can win. This positive attitude should translate over to the players. If we see another flat start and a disjointed effort, then I agree that any thoughts on selling an improvement by Mooney and Company will be out the window.

Because if this fact, I feel that the Spiders win and we get the all is well speech.

Agreed, this season is another lost one and it is still January. Anyone thinking we are going to make some magical run in the A-10 tournament is pretty delusion. We will finish with a sub .500 conference record and not even an after thought of a post season invitation, all the while, we graduate a significant portion of our core contributors.

This isn't some youth movement where we can see a bright future but simply another season of a substandard roster, coaching, and outcomes. No change will be offered at the end of either, this we know.

Last year was a bust, this year is shaping up to be not good in conference unless some miracle happens, we lose a good chunk of contributors as you indicated, we need to throw out the OOC wins vs losses as they are irrelevant this season IMHO to get a truer picture, unless we get another miracle of good players recruited and in portal...then next year projects as another weak year. However, 3 years in a row is all good, OK, and in line with what our program is willing to accept.

I am going to predict a win here. Does it really matter? Well moving in the right direction with wins matter. Don’t worry the next few games I will forget.

Aren’t the wheels already off?

I’d like to point out that Davidson beat us 3 times in a row last year when we both stunk. Davidson also won at GW this year, a team that wiped the floor with us twice. Historically we’ve always done well against Davidson but the tide might be turning. If we lose Saturday, we could be looking at a losing streak that spans 7-8 games in a row.

Everyone is under appreciating my post #155 in under appreciated thread…
Wouldn’t 3-11 leave us 4 games short of a full conference slate? I guess 3-15 is possible. Rattling off 9 straight losses to close the season would certainly be…interesting.

Yes, I said 3-11 because at the time of my post our 15th A10 game was the first future game we were favored in.
