Game Thread - @Belmont / Wed Dec 3 7:30 PM - ESPN+

Big contributions from the transfers today and some luck with 3 point bank shots equals a win. Glad the Spiders were able to get the road win. Liked the energy all game. Belmont had some awful turnovers that really helped the Spiders out.

I am sure Belmont will have a good season though.

Love our faster pace and use of secondary fast breaks. They laid off Beagle and plugged lane knowing he won’t take a 3 or 10-12 foot jumper. Walz they tended to stay up on him knowing he can take a 3. We need production from those two. Belmont played the UVA PAC Line defense.

I saw that with Beagle too, and wondering if he can make a 15 footer? Felt like if he could have dropped a couple if those in he could have had more room to operate.

Carolina, also mentioned staying in attack mode and taking what D gives us as keys to game for us. We have been moving the ball well and being more opportunistic, until Disney. We came out looking for shots and being aggressive, with Thomas setting the tone from the jump. Great to see. Other huge factor was Argabright bouncing back with nice game.

That was a really fun game to watch. Mooney did a great job with lineups and rotation this game. A few thoughts I had.

1) I noticed we had a short period with no Beagle or Walz on the floor and I thought we looked decent during them. Interesting to see that look at an important time late in the second half.

2) I know we started slow, might have just taken the starters a bit to gel with Thomas instead of Tyne. Worked out well in the end but looked like we needed a few possessions to figure it out.

3) Nice to see Robinson get 10 minutes. He looks raw but he had a nice drive to the hoop in the second half and pulled down an offensive rebound.

4) David Thomas I was not familiar with your game. I couldn’t believe it when he hit 3 after 3. Just incredible and kept us in it early in the game while the rest of the offense figured it out.

This one is a great win. Makes the Furman loss sting even more, we really could be 8-0 right now. But I’ll tell you one thing. I’d rather beat Belmont and lose to Furman than beat Furman and lose to Belmont. We learned a lot about this team tonight.

If he hits a few jumpers, that would force defense to come out which would open up lane for cuts and drives.
Got to believe he can hit them based on his foul shooting.

I thought David Thomas would not be a factor this season. He is proving me an idiot, haha
Outstanding shooting day for Thomas, 85.7% from 3, but that is obviously not a sustainable make rate. We needed him to step up and he did. The scary thing is if he shoots 40%, a very good percentage, the Spiders lose.

The good news is this team can score, but the bad news is the defense can be non-existent at times. Definitely makes for a fun game to watch, but if the shots suddenly don’t drop then there’s major trouble.

Love the result and an important game to win, but the Spiders still have a long way to go. Just one step in the right direction.

I was so focused on the game that I didn't really see the Belmont bench once. Is Aidan Noyes injured or just literally the last guy on the bench (which is pretty insane to think about given how hyped at one point we were about him)
