Game Thread: @ 4th ranked Texas - Friday 11/7 8pm - SECN+

Down by 11 at half. Texas turned up a notch after being down 16-14 after 1Q. Got to limit turnovers and fouls, though Texas has missed a bunch of free throws. Let’s have a strong second half
 
Think we have really played well actually. Especially think all the non-Core 3 played pretty well. We had some good 3 point looks we didn't get to go and at least three wide open layups that we the pass wasn't good. We have to be near perfect on the chances we do get and we weren't, but we are right there is we do cash those easier opportunities. The thing I worried most about going in was our perimeter defense and I think that's actually been really good!

Our offense struggled because they are overplaying every passing lane and jumping every screen and they are bigger and faster across the board and we are struggling to handle that. Losing Newell was a big blow as she might be the one who could take advantage.
 
Random thoughts

Simon played super tough.

LOVED Persichetti. 2nd college game and absolutely didn't back down at either end while matched up repeatedly against All-Americans.

Dewey gave them some really tough solid minutes.

Newell was excellent in her brief time.

We aren't really deep enough for this kind of game. I think we really go 8 deep and down to 7 without Newell. After that, I don't think we are ready for this level game. The other frosh need more time. Travis might be physical and athletic enough etc. but she is lost on the systems on both ends.

Rachel looked rushed a bunch of times.

Wright is going to need to grow up fast if Newell is out for an extended stretch of games which it sounds like she might be!
 
Texas showing why they’re the #4 team in the country. Still got to keep fighting, will only make this team stronger. Love Simon’s tenacity getting rebounds. Agree that Persischetti and Newell have looked great so far and will be key contributors to our line up. A lot to learn from this game to carry us the rest of the season so I hope we keep fighting despite the score
 
Big struggle for Wright out there to start the 2nd half. Still so new - - struggling to understand the systems on both ends. Playing hard but just so internally focused because systems are not 2nd nature to her yet
 
I think we need to look at some of our spacing on offense. We are getting squeezed with a lot of people in small spaces. Sure Texas D has something to do with this, but we are getting a lot of balls slapped away by others peoples defenders because we are so tight.
 
Didn’t see the Newell injury in live action, but looks like a broken nose? Wonder if she will get that fixed and then play with the Roche mask. Hope she gets back on the floor soon.

Hope the Lady Spiders are able to use this game as motivation throughout the season.
 
I hope Newell makes a quick recovery. I think we are a very good team despite the loss, and much better when she is on the floor (not though not 30 points better)
