Dane Caldwell - 2026 6'9 Committed

Caldwell also had offers from Bradley, Miami of Ohio, Ball State, Akron, High Point, and several other mid-major programs. As has been the case for the tallest Richmond players since Chris Mooney became coach in 2005, Caldwell is known for his versatility. He said his game picked up attention from college recruiters as a junior, when enhanced aggressiveness and assertiveness became apparent. A very strong AAU spring/summer season increased interest.

The Spiders made sense for Caldwell, he suggested, because improving what he already does fairly well will fit with what Richmond emphasizes on offense. The early signing period for Division I basketball is Nov. 12-19.
UR will be looking for inside help following the upcoming season, when 6-11 Mike Walz and 6-10 Jonathan Beagle are seniors. This year’s freshman class includes 6-11 Dylan Homenick.

Caldwell is viewed more as a wing/forward on offense rather than an interior player. Walz and Beagle are interior players, leaving the door open for additional acquisition of big men at UR.

Kinda hard to find highlights of him online - seems like more of a wing/stretch 4 type. Reminds me of a taller Noyes. Definitely excited about the size and versatlity.

Not much available to see on this guy, but obvious he is not going to be competing for an interior spot. My earlier comment was more about roster spots than direct competition for a specific position. Can’t say I am overly impressed with this signing. Hopefully he works out better than Noyes.

A total of 8 D1 offers. Mainly MAC schools which makes sense considering he is from Indiana. Not an earth shattering recruit but a 6'9 guy wing guy who has some hops, not a bad signing either. Needs to hit the weight room. Seems like a classic Mooney redshirt recruit.

Dane replaces AP, and Deuce replaces Will Johnston.
We're still looking to fill Walz, Beagle, and Lopez spots ... at a minimum.
Think the consensus is the Walz spot , at minimum will need to be from the portal. of course can probably fill all spots and still have a few in portal due to defections.

Also, this is Mooney long game 🤫. When Bryson breaks out in 26-27 and transfers up, Dane will be the tall wing ready to step in in 27-28.
