Cost of making the Sweet 16

Not sure where to post this but great comments by the longterm CofC AD ..

Agree 100%. I understand that “the rules” allow the money chasing and jumping from school to school every year, but that doesn’t mean it should be the standard. Each school has to make its own decision on what its priorities are and focusing on being the best institution of higher learning is a worthwhile pursuit in my eyes. CoC has made its choice, explained their goals and I congratulate them.

Here is another worthwhile read. Hopefully this is a free access link to article in The Athletic. This one is about the mess regarding the lack of transparency in player pay even when public funding is being used. Somehow salaries for every other position in State funded Universities are known, but not what athletes are being paid. Of course, the various schools are a major part of the problem. Then there is the fact that school based funding is the only “capped” portion of athletes pay. NIL payments are unlimited, but supposed to be vetted by the Clearinghouse. It isn’t an equal playing field by a long short and it seems that the totals are getting more irrational instead of settling down. Only in America is all I can say.

If you want to include Gonzaga then 10. 10% of the teams outside of P4/Big East have made the final four the past 25 years.
More importantly, nobody since the advent of the portal and outright play-for-pay. Nobody even made it to the Sweet 16 this year, IIRC.
