Building a Culture

Look at Josh Scherz, the SLU coach, engaging with fans after their game last night. This is the type of program engagement and culture building that we are severely lacking under Mooney. I'm not saying Mooney needs to take jello shots with fans after the game but man, he does the bare minimum to engage and grow the fanbase..

We see Roussell engaging with fans and building awareness through social media. Why do you think Mooney refuses to do anything?

Culture of Comfort. Everything is too hard. He only does what he is forced to do. He's been raking in $1.5 million plus perks/endorsements for years win or lose with backing of the biggest sugar daddy.

Other reason is anything he does that sheds light on the hoops program is bad. He likes to be able to control the woe is me narrative and not be challenged.

Whether you think Mooney is a bad coach or not, it’s undeniable that he does the absolute bare minimum to engage with the fan base, community, or student body. When’s the last time he did something he wasn’t paid for? We need an injection of energy to the program and the only way we are getting that is with a new coach.

I honestly don't care if he does any of this stuff. But he could pump the program in interviews, actively try to get games scheduled, not sound like he is on suicide watch, not bitch and moan about the state of the game and NIL. Not ignore major components of the game like rebounding. Just so many parts of the job that he acts like a pompous rich jersey and act like he is above questioning.

"Culture Of Comfort" - spot on. No doubt he's on cruise control or dialing it in. There's no imagination nor real vision.

And as we've all stated before in different ways, there's no accountability & no pressing need for practical changes by Moon and his supporters.

We'll be here in (I believe) '28/'29 saying the same thing as we watch the weave as shot clock expires and under 6' guards covering centers on defense.

Losing record + low energy (i.e. not engaging with fan base, no social media presence, generic interview response) = perception of complacency.

Ideally, I’d love to have a coach like Schertz that’s winning and has high energy, but at the end of the day I don’t think the latter is the most important thing as long as we are winning. Then the results speak for themselves. Otherwise, it does give off the impression of complacency.

Just like how he doesn’t coach the team in timeout huddles until the last 30 seconds. Only coach in the huddle from start to finish is usually Boyton
I always thought that weird too but it’s not abnormal for an HC to do so.

What is weird is to have virtually no social media presence. You don’t even have to do it yourself, have someone in athletics communications do it pseudonymously.

I get it if media hits aren’t your thing, but when you are flailing on court, you better be doing your best to rehab your image off court.
