Aiden Argabright - Incoming freshman and potential future PG

Can’t read the article but from the quote they use in the tweet, doesn’t exactly gives me a lot of confidence he will be back. Sounds like, and very understandably so, going to explore all his options and coming back to UR is one of them.

Those are actually about as positive statements you are going to get from a kid these days. Short of someone saying, "I'll definitely be back", there isn't much more you should expect, and anyone saying they'll be back before knowing what their NIL share is going to be is likely not someone who is going to meaningfully impact the team's performance.

Maybe I’m reading into it too much, but had he known he would be back, he would’ve said so. Perhaps even if he wants to come back, it’s smart for him to explore his options. He knows that UR desperately wants him which can help with NIL negotiations.

Watch the Spider sound off episode with Aiden. Demeanor changes when next year comes up. Not a great feeling about it honestly. Like I said on another thread either way it will be spun in moons favor. If leaves, see we tried everything to keep him, impossible environment for a coach. If he stays, see players love Mooney and look what we are building.

Also, seems he’d want to know surrounding players; especially new guys coming in. And remember - those coming in we will know based upon stats and video. However they still will be expected to play within the constraints of a failed basketball system full of flaws.

Making a good paycheck and AA being one of the leaders of a Mooney repeat these 2 past seasons doesn’t seem like it would leave a positive feeling. How much does he want to play on a winning team vs staying in his 1 year comfort factor for more $?

Others have made a point that I agree with. AA is good but top teams may still be hesitant in how his ability will translate to a higher level. So for AA, he would either need to transfer to a very good mid major and produce there or stay here another year, do really well again and then I think the doors really open up after that. Him being a local guy, might make the idea of staying here more enticing at least one more year. Plus, he’s going to get considerably more playing time. Probably Gilly levels of playing time.

I’m not sure I agree. Theories until proven wrong. Maybe plays out that way and maybe not.

He can stay here and be big fish in little pond or go elsewhere for possibly more $ and better chance to win and get to NCAA. Doubtful he’ll see NCAA here.

Question - is he truly local player? Someone told me something about NOVA or Maryland. Not sure…just asking. Didn’t he play at John Marshall HS in RVa? If so, how many years? Other schools he played at?

And he could also get big stats here next year, which could lead to big pay in year 3 elsewhere.

If someone comes calling with a serious bag, it would be hard to retain him, particularly given the uncertainty around what quality we might have for next year. But he’d get loads of playing time, feels comfortable with the returners, and has the local connection.

Which parts of what I said don’t disagree with?

Depends on how serious of a bag we’re talking. I would not be surprised at all if he is offered $400-500K by a P5 team to be a back-up with the recruiting pitch that his last 2 years he can be a starter. In that case he gets the exposure and the most money.

We saw with the SEC tweet I posted that nearly every single school was operating at $8 million or more. I think it’s fair to say that the majority of P4 schools are operating between $6-10 million. There will be outliers like Kentucky and Duke.

If that’s the case, I don’t think it’s crazy to think on a 15 man roster, a school will take a chance on him for $400-500K as a backup. See how he does in practice and limited minutes perhaps for a year and if he blossoms, can really make a name and paycheck for himself the next 2 years.

As great as AA is, do I think UR should give him $500K under normal circumstances, I do not. These are not normal circumstances though. I think it would be a really bad look for Mooney and the program to have our best player leave next year. So there’s a certain price I’m sure we’re willing to go up to, even if it’s beyond what we normally would offer, to try and convince him to stay here. This is to try and save face a little bit and convince fans a little more easily that we have something to build on next year. Otherwise it is a complete rebuild.

I think we'll certainly offer him more than we've paid anyone before.
and while I'm usually for guys betting on themselves, I don't see him getting a better opportunity at a high major. I think our NIL offer will be comparable to what a high major would offer for the role they'll see him in. and I don't see him transferring to a mid major.

it's all doom and gloom in hear and will be all off season I expect, but with the increased NIL I acttually think we'll land 3 starters ... hopefully all with multiple years remaining ... that I'll be really excited about. those guys with AA leading at point, we can win a lot more next year. then AA will have a real decision to make. he'll already be making a ton. he could go for more, or keep making a ton and go down a Spider legend.

too soon feeling positive for most of you I'm sure! lol

You literally are excited about every single recruit or transfer Mooney brings every year. And then, he hides them by redshirting them, or they need another year and you remain excited and then they turn out to be not very good. And yet, you faithfully rinse and repeat every year and get excited for the next batch of lemons he brings in and/or decent players he brings in that don't fit his system and thus don't perform at the level theu could with a proper coach and system.

I have no doubt you will be really excited about the recruits he brings in, its what you do every single year, with every single recruit.

Sman, love and respect your posts, but 97 nailed it. You have even admitted you always love all the guys we recruit.
