Aiden Argabright - Incoming freshman and potential future PG

He has a great opportunity to be an all time great af UR, that has a reasonably good pull.

I think it’ll boil down to projected playing time, how good the team around him is, and of course money.
Going to be hard to know about the team around him. I guess he could hold off in the portal until we land guys. But that would require passing up on opportunities.

True, so perhaps that’s a strike against our chances.

Such a gutsy player. A pleasure to watch. Faster than Roadrunner. Hope he stays next year.
I love him, but I think you guys are worrying over nothing here. If he were to go elsewhere, there is always a chance an incoming recruit or a transfer could take his playing time at his new school. He would be taking a huge risk transferring up.

Generally agree that I hope and think he will stay.. but even if we hate the current model, start writing checks, venmoing to @Spiderbballrocks or transfer some stock to keep him ... he should clearly have the highest "salary" as we head into the '26-27 season

Think AA is a fun player to watch and glad UR has an impact true freshman. But if we are truly stuck with Mooney for another year, I think whether he stays or goes makes no difference at all for next year. Very sad but just the way it is.

Idk, he’s the kind of guy you can build around. Of course, you have to be able to actually grab some other guys and we’re missing at least 2 impact starters in the front court.

I added to this earlier post to clarify my point. I am not talking about a recruit or transfer coming here and replacing him if he leaves. None of us wants that to happen. What I mean is I think he stays because it seems like it would be risky for him to move up a level because power teams would always be looking to recruit and add PGs. At his postion and his size, if he gets passed in the rotation, his playing time could be cut dramatically.

Staying here, he is likely locked into huge minutes the next 3 years. I guess there is a chance he sees us not being good next year and wanting to transfer laterally, but I don't think transferring up would be a smart move.

I think his point was even if we add talent around him, would it even matter because we would still run the same struggling offense and play the same struggling defense.

Actually all of the above. There are front court issues and Mooney and staff being able to fill those gaps in one year is highly unlikely. Always takes more than one year. If AA stays might be able to be a key part in year 3. Next year is going to be extra ugly with a capital U. Next year is a sell the future year and we will see another outstanding OOC with probably multiple non-D1 games.

Not saying I want AA to leave by any means, simply saying I think worrying about the possibility makes no sense to me.

He's not transferring to a P5 without a nice payday, and I don't think anyone is giving him a nice payday just to sit the bench. So it should be pretty cut and dry either way.
Depends on what the Spiders pay. Some p5's probably pay plenty for a player to sit on the bench.

Would he take double what he gets now to play on a competitive p5 to get 15 minutes a game? Bet he would in a second. Either way, he will at least test the portal when the time comes. No reason for him not to at this point.

Fair. I think it struggles because we recruit players and turn them into robots. But CM periodically gets guys like Aiden who can operate within the system and still remain instinctual.

I can see this with 3 of our 5 starters rn. Johnston, tanner and Walz all run the offense but don’t really look to score. If Johnston just played to his natural strengths he’d be worth 12ppg I bet. Instead he’s out dribbling around and passing and not hinting a shot.

Lopez and AA are the two guys really being opportunistic. Beagle can be when he’s in. I think Harper is too but he’s gotten so little run it doesn’t matter.

I actually don’t think you “test the portal” with CM. I think if your name goes in, you aren’t likely welcome back.

Well today a guy like AA can have his people talking to teams gauging $ and interest and opportunity prior to formally putting his name in. If he does leave it will be one more excuse for Mooney.

I think at most places if you test the portal, you won't be back. Your current team needs to replace you, and can't wait around for you to make a decision. Especially, at the PG position.

Agreed, all I’m saying is that once you’ve made that call, it’s pretty much over with your current program.
