About Iran

Trump has repeatedly promised to come to the aide of the Iranian people.

On at least eight occasions over the past three weeks, Trump encouraged Iranian protesters to go into the streets, assuring them that the United States had their back and that “help is on the way.” He threatened that if the Iranian regime killed protesters, the U.S. was “locked and loaded” to take action.

“If they start killing people like they have in the past,” he warned, “we will get involved. We’ll be hitting them very hard where it hurts. And that doesn’t mean boots on the ground, but it means hitting them very, very hard where it hurts.”

But after more than 2,500 deaths of protesters in Iran, Trump has seemingly backed away from his promises. Is Trump someone who does what he says or not?

Trump encouraged and even fomented the Iranian protests. It is shameful that he has backed away.

American presidents have a power unlike any other position in the world. Trump has squandered his credibility and left the poor Iranians alone to die in the streets.

The regime is at its weakest point since it was founded in 1979.

Where is Trump?

The Trump Administration is squeezing Iran in many different ways.
They are pressuring Iraq to exclude Iranian backed militias from the Iraqi government, by threatening to cut off access to Iraq's oil money held at the NY federal reserve. Good move Trump.

Four unspecified sources told Western media on January 23 that the United States recently threatened senior Iraqi officials with US sanctions, including sanctions targeting Iraq’s oil revenue account at the New York Federal Reserve, if Iranian-backed Iraqi militias are included in the next government.[75] The Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) has managed an account at the New York Federal Reserve on behalf of the Iraqi Finance Ministry since 2003 that holds the Iraqi federal government’s revenue from oil exports in US dollars.[76] Oil revenue accounts for about 90 percent of Iraq’s state budget.[77] Curtailing Iraqi government access to its oil revenue account would very likely hinder the Iraqi government’s ability to fund domestic spending and provide liquidity for Iraqi banks.

This US threat is part of a broader US effort to limit Iranian influence in Iraq by pressuring the Iraqi government to exclude Iranian-backed Iraqi political actors from Iraq’s government.

The China and Iran threads are intertwined. The deployment of the Abraham Lincoln near Iran poses substantial risks to the strike group. Iran has ballistic missile that MAY be capable of hitting the Lincoln. It also has long range drone swarms that are designed to overwhelm electronic warfare systems. Iran has learned a lot from the Ukraine war.

This website says that we can expect a strike on Iran this Sunday. If Trump wants to overthrow the regime, he will need to get weapons into Iran to support the protesters.

This did not age well.

He does not want to negotiate; he wants you to capitulate or he will try to bully you into submission. He does not understand when bullying is appropriate.

As President he only bullies smaller countries. He is notably not confrontational towards China or Russia.

Although I would say Iran needs to be brought to its knees if any country does.
Iran has been asking for it for a long time.

Quick summary, just to track this stuff. On the 26th,

Iran rejected the idea of transferring uranium stockpiles abroad.
It also has objected to
ending enrichment,
dismantling its nuclear facilities,
permanent restrictions on its program.

The U.S. is offering only minimal sanctions relief to Tehran as part of a deal, another friction point, as Iran is hoping for substantial relief for its beleaguered economy, a trigger for the mass protests that shook the regime early this year. The U.S. wants to see Iran comply with the terms for an extended period and, if judged to be sticking to the agreement, it could in time ask for more sanctions relief and other benefits, the officials said.

If Trump attacks Iran...

Israel will participate.
We will have planes shot down.
Iran will fire missiles at our ships, including aircraft carriers.
Iran will fracture
The Kurds will set up an independent/ autonomous state.
The IRGC will attempt to retain control.
Protests will be violently suppressed
A civil war will break out.
Iran will kill anyone who tries to lead them.
To support the insurgency, the US will be asked to provide air support, including ground support attacking IRGC troops.
Weapons will have to be given to the insurgency.
The US will be blamed for the death of the Supreme Leader, who will be killed by the Iranians.
ISIS will try to be established in Iran.
Iran will become a failed state.

Will a liberal western democracy will be established?

Given this, it is still worth it. Iran must be stopped.

This is where we are with Iran...

The Department of State warning was supplemented by a message to US embassy staff from the ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, urging those that wanted to leave to “do so TODAY”.

He contacted embassy staff in an email sent at 12.04am local time, urging them to book flights anywhere they could.

This move “will likely result in high demand for airline seats today”, he wrote. “Focus on getting a seat to any place from which you can then continue travel to DC, but the first priority will be getting expeditiously out of the country.”

The call to leave Israel came as Oman’s foreign minister, Badr Albusaidi, the key mediator in the talks between the US and Iran, flew to Washington in what looked increasingly like a last-ditch effort to persuade the Trump administration to hold back. He was due to brief JD Vance, the US vice-president, and make the case that enough progress has been made in the talks to warrant caution....

Vance is reputedly the senior member of the administration most opposed to military interventions and Albusaidi’s task is to try to convince him that a swift military strike will not change Iran’s basic negotiating stance.

This is important:
In a sign that large gaps exists between the two sides, the Iranian leadership called on the US to drop its toughest demands. The US negotiators, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, ominously issued no statement after the talks.

There is a report that Iran was rebuilding its nuclear program in an even deeper facility that our bombs will not be able to reach.
