AA needs to start on Saturday ...

Said on the other post, Tyne is basically just doing cardio out there. I don't know what has happened to him, but him starting like Tanner starting in OOC is a complete joke. I have no idea the allegiance to Tyne at this point. He needs to be benched like Tanner.
Moon loyalty factor is very difficult to overcome. Admirable but not practical.

Of the many baffling coaching deficiencies that CM exhibits, this is the most baffling. He is literally coaching against his own self-interests every game that he sticks with certain underperforming players.

I don’t want to ever hear a “best guys play” slogan again, clearly that is selectively applied at UR.

If you look at the minutes, the best players are playing, and playing the most minutes. They just aren’t starting

I don’t think anyone can provide a rational explanation to what the benefits of having a starting line up change in under 2 minutes of game time would be. Maybe it’s to match up with the lineup the other team has? Although Mooney does this every game and with the same players so it’s hard to say. The downsides are disrupting team chemistry and flow of the game.

Best guys need to be on the floor. Obviously injuries, foul troubles, players having a bad game, or adapting line up to other teams players/playing styles are important considerations for a coach in changing the line-up during the game. Still, doing so within 2 minutes is too early in my opinion and at that point has more negatives than positives.

It's another thing that Mooney does where he thinks he is unique and smart, but is really dumb. Has anyone asked him to explain it yet? very reasonable question, but I'm sure our media wouldn't dare.
I thought the same thing this morning and even started to think about what Mooney’s answer would be. Then I became disoriented and fell down the stairs on my way to breakfast. /s

Let me add that it's also Moon showing yet one more aspect of his flexibility and always willing to change things up.😜

Wainwright used to do this also. Said he just really wanted to get everyone in the game quickly to get their juices flowing and engaged and into it. I can see that logic, but the drawback is a disruption of chemistry and flow. And of course, maybe don't sub out a guy who makes 2 three pointers in the first two possessions just because that's what we decided to do in September.

Mooney brings 1-2 new concepts into this coaching criteria every season and then weds himself to those concepts so tightly that it really doesn't matter if the results are bad or good, we are doing it.

One example that comes to mind in the Grant/Gilly years he started to have our center hedge out the player with the ball around the 3 point line. It worked reasonably well initially because it was a new wrinkle that caught other teams off guard. But we did it so much and so consistently that other coaches saw it on the game tape and then began to use it against us. And then it didn't work as well, but we kept doing it.

I think Mooney has been attempting to introduce baseball's "opener" concept to college basketball. He's throwing his closer out there to open the game and face the best three or four hitters on the other team, then bringing in his starting pitcher in the second inning to go to work after that. Probably figured that if it worked and led to a national championship, he would become coach for life here. Then on Saturday realized that he already is and said 'screw it.'
