2026 Spring Football Practice Schedule:

“Defenses dominate” sounds like a nice way to say the offense stinks. 10-3 game. 0-0 at half. Yikes. Anyone there and can confirm if it was that bad?

That our 2nd team defense dominated our starting offense is neither good nor surprising. Only TD of the game was a 57 yard "scamper" (read: busted play) by the back-up (presumably) QB. Also not good. Bottom line is unless we have a real OC from outside the Huesman tree who is fully empowered to design, implement and call offense and bring in and play whoever he wants, we are going to stink on offense because Russ doesn't know and doesn't like modern offense at all.

Not full tackle so they threw it way more than usual. Can't really run the ball because they are down when touched, so a lot of underneath passing and having a walk on QB play 40% of drives didn’t help.

Not overly exciting but defense is far ahead of Offense. Usually they throw in some short fields but none of that, everything was 75+ yards to gooverwatch except one drive. That would've helped things because we were overmatched.

Could there be less excitement around this program than there is now? Spring game used to be a priority to attend on my calendar - now didn’t even know the game was yesterday.

When I listen to Huesman speak he often sounds like he’d be a high school coach with a limited vocabulary from a small rural West Virginia town with a total collection of 8 unopened books from the 1960s in its library. Not inspirational.

I think there there were 5 receivers, 1 TE, and 3 guards for two offenses so pretty hard to gauge the offense. And our back up QB was out. My immediate concern is why so many guys are injured in the spring. I wish huesman would say something about adjusting the training regime so people are healthy and fresh.

A few highlights on offense

  • Justin rice and Donovan Higgins looked good. With those two hill Veney abd fair we should be good at WR.
  • Also liked Carson derey at TE. love that he’s wearing 91.
  • I think Jason smith was playing both guard positions for both teams. Seems like he’s the centerpiece of the o-line going forward.

No social media presence and not even making efforts to create another football account. Very little advertisement otherwise. Very sad stuff.

Not much UR generated buzz now that the Spring Game is in the books but a few overly optimistic (probably) thoughts.

I think our defense has a chance to be really good this season. We've got a nice mix of veterans and some younger guys who have played and should be ready to move into full time reps. We also actually got a few guys back that were considering the portal which rarely happens.

Offense is always the big question mark but at least we have a QB in Snelshire who has some experience. I keep going back to that 3rd quarter in Williamsburg in November from a play calling perspective: Aggressive, creative plays that put guys in a position to do what their skill set allows. Hopefully we are past the conservative, designed QB runs at all cost mindset.

There is more excitement surrounding the football team than the basketball team. We will see how the offense performs. Last season, our coaches underperformed. They had the tools, failed to use them well.
