2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Opponents Countdown - North Carolina

Belichick's hiring turned this paycheck game into a great media opportunity for the Spiders...the entire college football world will still be interested in how Belichick is faring in his transition to college football...

his impact has already been felt on the Heel's roster which will include 70 new players...he's implementing a pro style philosophy into all aspects of the UNC program...he hopes to use it to build a pipeline to the NFL...off the field his statue and notoriety have resulted in excitement not seen for years in Carolina football...I have read that every ticket allotted for UNC home games this season has been sold already!

For Richmond fans, last week the Spiders Ticket Office was still selling UNC tickets...

So far Carolina seems to have gotten everything they wanted from Belichick off the field...now he's got to take it to the Stadium and make it work...while his team will be almost all new there have to be some leftovers from the squad that former UR rival JMU put 53 points on in the first half of a 2024 win! The ACC media weren't intimidated by Belichick's resume...they picked the Heel's to finish mid pack in the giant conference, 8th place...no Tarheel earned a place on the preseason All ACC teams!

despite all of this I expect North Carolina will be the heavy favorite, but regardless of what the scoreboard says at the final gun September 13, a respectable performance by the Spiders will be a big win...

BTW this old timer can still remember the last time we played the Heels...November 1978...a struggling Richmond team whipped a Carolina team that was talking about going to a bowl game...it may have been Coach Jim Tait's biggest win...Jeff Nixon had a game I'll never forget...I believe he may have been awarded SI's national Player of the Week after the shocking upset...not saying that's going to happen this season, but you never know!

enjoy the Countdown!

Go Spiders!

Go Spiders!

That game was played at City Stadium in front of 16,000.

Brother, Jackson, played QB at Richmond... How did you find this? You probably have an AI data bank covering all things college football. You either have a server farm somewhere in Florida, with dedicated nuclear power plants, or you work for the NSA.

I wouldn't mind a match-up against JMU, maybe a home and home.
it would be fun, but don't think they'd ever do it...we embarrassed them enough over the years...

if it were to occur I'd ask to play in the Turkey Capital of the World's aluminum stadium, and request a $400K check for the trip!...they whipped UNC last season...if Carolina pays us $400K, surely the Pukes would too...

we played them for free for over 40 years...nothing would be finer than covering some of our costs with JMU student fees!

what's the name of that band they have?...I've forgotten already...

Go Spiders!

JMU typically pays $200k–$300k for FCS buy games. They paid Ball State $400k last season and they paid MTSU $700k the season before out of desperation because they couldn't fill their schedule.

No way they do a home-and-home with an FCS program.
