Colgate may have the best history of any Patriot League football program...in 2003 they advanced to the I-AA Championship game...before losing to Delaware...they have been in the FCS Playoffs eleven times!...the Raiders have won ten Patriot League championships!
lately the Raiders have struggled...they've had only one winning season since 2018!...the last time Colgate made the FCS Playoffs...
2025 brings a new head coach to Hamilton, NY, Curt Fitzpatrick...he comes to Colgate from Cortland State in NY where his team won the D-III National Championship...
Fitzpatrick has a 97 man roster to work with...one publication listed 22 "significant" returnees...I assume this means players who saw significant playing time in the previous year...all this didn't mean much to the Patriot League preseason pollsters...they picked the Raiders to finish in 7th place in the 8 team League...coming off of a 2-10, 1-5 PL season Fitzpatrick will be looking for improvement across the board!
on paper, in the preseason, this looks like another road game in which Richmond should be favored...I'll say it again, we have to win road games like this one if we want to battle the best Patriot League teams for a Championship!
