Say it ain't so ...

Major Ughh.

Happy for Coach Roussell, but sad for UR Women’s basketball. Really wanted to see what he could do this coming season as it will be a challenge replacing 2 all time players for any coach. The timing really puts UR in a deficit both in terms of getting a new coach and managing the roster.

Would’ve loved to see him build a legacy here with the support of our admin behind him. Was probably wishful thinking on my part. Thank you for everything you’ve done coach for building up our women’s program. I wish you all the best.

Brutal. Can’t say I blame him if we couldn’t match the salary/NIL budget that UVA offered. Seemed like it was a natural jumping off point with this being Maggie and Rachel’s last year.

Actually, congratulations! He coached well here, brought UR success in womens bb and is moving to a bigger program. Thats a theme we want to repeat in all sports as it would point to the success of the sport.
Contrast that to moonman’s groundhog day.

Well, the great news is we still have the winningest coach on the men's side.

News sucks but glad no one has poached our mens coach.......yet.

Hardt said “The University made every effort to retain Aaron, and we're disappointed by his departure“ Curious what this means and whether we continue this same momentum with the next coach to continue where we left off. Hope there won’t be a drop off of resources and investment just because Roussell is leaving.

This one worried me from the jump. Easy hire for them, easy job to take for him etc. He probably doesn't even have to move if he doesn't want to. Big loss for sure and a very big hire. We need to be aggressive here, but guess is we'll be settling somehow! Not a lot of confidence in admin here!

This is a huge hire. Our women's program is at an inflexion point - - are we going to be a consistently elite mid-major level program or are we just happy to catch a wave once in awhile. VCU men have shown that you can remain the elite mid-major program in the country if you are committed to it and have expectations and resources in concert. I'd hope that we go that way.

Unfortunately, history with our Men's program says we will go the other direction. Save some cash on both salary and NIL that Rousell was able to command and we won't pony up to the new person and then happily be mediocre for the next 22 years!

First thing I thought after “crap” was there is one coach happier than Roussell with this news.
