I want to root for this team so badly

It is really hard. The program needs desperately someone who can inject new life, new ideas, new ways to engage our fanbase and obviously an iron clad commitment to winning at the highest level. Mooney brings none of that, he doesn't even attempt to bring any of it.

Mooney did admit to a "failure" last night on the coach's show, said that he initially didn't offer Daughtry right away on his visit, then had to call him the next day and offer and say he should have offered right away. So I guess that's some self growth?

After last year's 8 win season, he didn't offer Daughtry right away? The first thing I would have said was " Hi Jaden, we need you and want you here. I am offering you a spot. Now, let me show you around."

in fairness, I'm sure he wasn't the only big forward we were talking to and he did have some sort of heart issue.

No, but it was weird how productive a player he was at Indiana State and yet how few minutes he got.
I previously went back and read the ISU board to get some Intel. Consensus seemed to be that minutes were restricted due to defensive shortcomings. Which was also noted by the guy that rated all the d1 transfers. Like u mentioned I think, he has been good at grabbing boards, and that is the final step in defense many times.

I am not going to blame Mooney for something that turned out to be nothing. I am surprised he even brought it up as it seems like something no one would know other than Jaden and his Dad. I have no doubt that the portal dynamics are very different than traditional recruiting and there is likely a good amount of second guessing.

Definitely not going to call Mooney a changed man, but he does seem to be operating differently than in past years. Granted we are talking about a subtle change like from being a steel rod to a wooden pole 😂

it is strange, though. in transfer recruiting, I would think any time you invite someone (and pay their costs to visit) that an offer is implied.
you've already watched all the film and spoken multiple times on the phone.

I didn't hear the exchange but since Mooney has been here since the dawn of time, I'm going to surmise this was more of a tongue in cheek comment versus an actual admission of a failure. Cause that is how Mooney rolls.

Of course the media file is no longer on a standard platform and I can’t get a link from the Spider TV page. However, I can tell you that this is not “classic Mooney” and actually sounded like an additional apology and Jaden again reiterated what happened from his point of view. As I said in my other post, it was rather surprising.

Maybe because they both have experienced heart issues there is an additional bond.
