2025 Richmond Spiders Football - Prologue - Georgetown

a couple of things have been consistent throughout Richmond's disappointing Patriot League debut season...the offense has struggled to create and take advantage of its opportunities...that's made every game a hard fought, often ugly to watch, defensive slugfest...

there's no reason to expect anything different Saturday against the Hoyas...it's likely to be another forgettable one possession game...hopefully one that falls the Spiders way...

once again this week Coach Huesman singled out our red zone problems...I expect if we could have fixed them we would have by now, but maybe Saturday will be the day...against Fordham a new scoring challenge popped up, the extremely reliable special team's had two FGs blocked...that's an easy problem to fix...who knows a FG could decide this one...

I don't know if it's just me, or if other long time Richmond fans have been thinking about former UR President William Cooper this week...President Cooper came to UR from Georgetown...

many Spiders' alums remember him best for allegedly referring to students as loveable "Mushheads"...that created controversy, but not as much as his suggestion that Richmond football would fit better in the then non athletic scholarship Patriot League...it was shocking at the time, but went nowhere and the Spiders won the FCS National Championship a few years later...things sure have changed in FCS and college football since then!..

ha! I'm sure he'll be watching the game Saturday and enjoying a victory lap 20 years later!

enjoy the Prologue

Go Spiders!

Spider Royalty never disappoints. This one is especially note-worthy "it's likely to be another forgettable one possession game". We thought you were Royalty, now you consider yourself a Mushhead. Maybe you are a Royal Mushhead?

The SG has some dissenters. This week, 8 picked the Spiders, while the Chief and the Sherriff picked Georgetown. Since the Chief went against the tide and made correct call for the Holy Cross game, one may be tempted to pick Georgetown. No way, it's still Georgetown, go with the Spiders. The Chief's position will fade.

Spiders win comfortably. Healthy, full roster available, red zone hiccups cured (hopefully) should cruise.

Talent is there. Just execute.

Go Spiders!
